I had a similar issue. It hasn't happened in awhile. I suggest getting one of the garage door sensors that will notify you if it opens. Some of the new garage door openers are "smart" which will have that ability and allow you to close it remotely.

Is it an amplified antenna? If won't needs to be pointed at a tower. If it's not amplified it doesn't so there could be something obstructing the signal. Depends on a lot of variables. If your antenna has a power supply it's amplified. If you still have issues PM me and I might be able to help.
