    Caster size for gantry crane

Agreed, a pallet jack would be useful. I'll keep an eye out for one on sale. Thanks

    Caster size for gantry crane

The ones I got through Amazon say they are rated at 1000 lbs per caster. I plan to be watchful over them once I put a good load on them. I used grade 8 bolts in the tapped holes on the feet, so the connect should be good, the caster just has to hold up. Valid concern though.

    Caster size for gantry crane

Got my 5" casters installed this weekend. They work well and the crane clears the bottom of the garage door track by about 1 inch. Those were the two goals, so I'm happy. Thanks all for your input.

Thanks for your input sberry. Also, love your Deere's. Do you do a lot of tractor work, or just your own fleet? I've got a little Massey 135 I tinker with, a little too much at times. :)

    Caster size for gantry crane

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and comments. A lot of great information! I got my laser measurer out tonight and did a precise measurement of the shop door rails to the ground and found that I would have enough room to accommodate 5 inch casters. I know that's not much more. As...

My shop area is 68x40, it won't move too much. Maybe 20 ft here or there. Thanks very much to everyone who has responded so far!! Awesome points made.

    Caster size for gantry crane

Hi guys, I've just acquired a Vestil 1 ton gantry crane. It came without casters, but is drilled and tapped on the bottom of the feet for them. Normally, this crane uses 8 inch diameter casters, but I'd like to put 4 inch steel casters on it in order for the crane to be able to roll under my...

Hi Drives! The welding table is on steel casters. It also has spin down feet that can be set by jacking the table up with a floor jack first, then spinning down the feet. The end shelves are the same size as the others: 8 1/2 ft x 33 inches wide. We've been living in it for about 3 months...

New Shop Setup Hi guys, I finally got both my metal shop and wood shop setup in the barn. This is an initial setup, there's still lots of stuff to do like electrical runs and interior wall studding and sheathing, but it's organized somewhat and functional. Here's a few shots:

I'll run the numbers on the ready mix truck vs. mixing myself Chad. There may be some jobs that would make sense to go the truck route. I've used the Oklahoma Mobile Concrete truck when I lived in Broken Arrow too. We poured an extra parking slot to the driveway, it went great. I think...

Hey Chad, the concrete work sounds like a lot of hard work, but I bet it's a good feeling to get it done! Thanks for the kind words. Next up on my building is organizing the shop and then building a 12x16 dedicated paint room with storage on top of it for the 30+ years of "stuff" we've...

Indoor plumbing is a blessing! My wife is happy with it, she chose the colors and did the painting and is adding her personal touches to the finishes. No plans to grow food just yet, but we do plan to do a raised bed in front of the porch for flowers and evergreens. We plan to be in the...

The Shouse or apartment area of the barn is now done minus a few punch list minor items. The septic system was installed yesterday and we now have indoor plumbing and that is a God send. We will be moving in and living full time in a couple of weeks. And a walk through video:
