    Rainwater Collection ideas

I work in catchment in Hawaii. Over here, we don't have freezing weather to worry about, but what we install primarily are corrugated steel tanks with a vinyl liner, similar to what you'd have for an above ground pool. Originally, I'm from Nebraska and the corrugated steel tanks we use here...

rain water collection - anyone done a "wet" system?

I live in Hawaii and work exclusively in rainwater catchment and live on catchment for all of our water usage. We don't have to worry about freezing here, but we still install cleanouts on all 'wet' downspout systems. Usually just used an irrigation valve box over it to allow for occasional...

AC Manifold & Pump recs (pref air to electric)

I've read a lot of reviews of the air powered ones that say they wish they had gone electric, never read the reverse. I found a $650 electric pump for $5 on Craigslist. Needed a new power cord and new oil, and works 10x better than the expensive air powered one my buddy has. He just borrows...

How would you sharpen a lathe dead center?

Or just stick it in the morse taper on the headstock of his word lathe, and carefully use a small file to dress the point. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk

    Show us your fire pits!

From what I've read and experienced, the ashes will quickly eat through mild steel. The photo in the article you linked looked like a stainless steel barrel, not mild steel. Water run through ashes makes lye, a chemical with a pH of 13 (out of a Max of 14) and bases can be just as bad as acids...

Looking for someone in Cleveland, OH area to pick up and ship tools from government s

Auction ends tomorrow, 5 days to pickup, and they allow someone else to pick up for me, per fine print on auction website. Thanks Nero, I put in a bid that didn't meet the reserve, but they have the option of accepting my bid, so we'll see what happens.

Depends on the results of the auction, but no more than 4. I suspect they would fit in a flat rate box from the postal service.

Help identifying pneumatic fitting (I think)

Chrysler/Jeep also has a version of those transmission fittings. Slightly smaller diameter than GM, but GM tube works in a pinch if you reduce its diameter about 40 thousandths and shorten the part after the flange. Damhik...

    Home Depot Clearance Thread 2016

When I had penny items pop up, the cashier at the garden checkout told me that she had to have manager approval if the price reduction was over $50 off regular price... I.E. she could sell me 6 cans of wasp spray at a time for $.06 because regular price was $8, $48 total, but add a fourth one on...

    Torsion half-axle identification

I have a home built trailer bought at a garage sale twenty years ago that the half axles are no longer providing any shock absorption. It was hard to read the imprint by artificial garage light but what I can make out says "Made in England" and I think the company is Hexitor, but it's hard to...

Need help with our new pantry

My grandparents have this style pantry, hand built by a friend in the sixties and I love it! It makes everything so much more accessible and I'm planning to redo our pantry one of these days to match. Basically just a center rib sticking out from the back and piano hinge so that the shelves...
