What is up with 3/8 Metric Socket Set vs. 1/2?

That's the downside of HF selling cheap incomplete sets. They're fine for what they are, but you had to have known going into it that the set was incomplete. Just hit up Tekton (on Amazon) or Craftsman (in person) to complete the set. Jim

Post a picture of your ratchets!!

Nothing to feel bad about, that set covers 99.9% of needs! If I were starting my collection over from scratch I'd start with either the 120xp or 84T four ratchet set. Probably the 84T, so as to allow for the Matco 88T heads. Jim

Post a picture of your ratchets!!

Here's my stuff. Sockets and long stuff in the top (i.e. breaker bars, torque wrenches, cheater bar, longer pry bar) and ratchets in a smaller drawer below. I keep a paper tower under the Craftsman rats to soak up the assembly lube that leaks out of the heads. I picked up the FLF80 on eBay...

DIY socket rails with wood bases

I didn't see on the GearWrench site where they listed the actual length. Amazon lists product length as 19" and 17" respectively for the 3pk and 1/2" drive single rail, so it looks like there's some conflicting information out there. They look really nice, but I'd have a hard time justifying...

DIY socket rails with wood bases

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback so far! I've been lurking on this forum off and on for probably two years now, and I'm happy to be able to give back to the community. I hope all the copies come out awesome, just make sure to post pics! Jim

DIY socket rails with wood bases

Thanks for the link! FWIW, the HF rail clips are a bit looser than the Craftsman rails/clips they replaced. Having said that, all the sockets except the impacts stay in place even when the rails are inverted. Unfortunately the impact sockets are much heavier than the rest, and pretty much...

DIY socket rails with wood bases

I agree, the magnet idea would be pretty cool! I actually ordered a 1/4" forstner bit and 100 1/4" x 1/8" rare earth magnets to do exactly that, but ended up not installing them at the last minute. There were a couple reasons for this: Although I purchased magnets of specific size, of which...

DIY socket rails with wood bases

So I finally pulled the trigger on a Harbor Freight 44" bottom box, and I wanted to store my sockets in the top drawer. In my old box I had all my sockets mounted on the Craftsman rails with handles, which are great but won't stand upright in a drawer. My requirements: Each rail must be...

Build a simple, inexpensive, 100% customizable, aluminum pliers rack for your toolbox

Last night I used some leftover materials from original post above and made a smaller rack for my electrical drawer. It definitely cleans things up! Jim

Build a simple, inexpensive, 100% customizable, aluminum pliers rack for your toolbox

Thanks, and also thanks for the original idea for the rack! I actually searched around for ideas on how to store spring loaded pliers, and found the zip tie idea here on GJ as well. So far it's been working well. Jim

Build a simple, inexpensive, 100% customizable, aluminum pliers rack for your toolbox

I built a slightly modified version of this over the weekend. I used 1/4"-20 all thread and 1/4" I.D. PEX pipe as well, but used Masonite (aka tempered hardboard) for the dividers, since I had some on-hand and didn't want to spring for a bunch of aluminum rulers. The masonite is a little...
