What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Do some quick research on just one outdoor cat's kill radius at night. They kill a TON of things. Little Whiskers is devastating to local wildlife. That said I've had a ton of cats. I watched my Siamese pull a magpie right out of the air as it tried to fly away when my cat made the lunge for...

Being prepared for the worst-case scenario...Someone breaking into your garage and robbing you blind

I was in HS when we got our garage broken into. Dad was pissed at losing some of his dad's tools and some from the military. But insurance took care of it. We went to sears and picked out a TON of new tools, that I now have. If it happened today I'd be angry b/c they are my dad's tools, but...

Recommendations to install a ceiling fan @ 20'?

Sorry wife is out of town... busy. Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking scaffolding is the way to go... I think HD has some for $100 a day? That ladder stuff is sketchy for me. I'm replacing a fan so the box is there. I think the 5' down rod is applicable too... Again, thanks for the...

Recommendations to install a ceiling fan @ 20'?

I'm wanting to buy and install a new 84" ceiling fan in our great room. Room is 22'x17' 20' ceiling as in the subject. Feel free to give thoughts as to the size. ie too big? Maybe a 72? What is the most common way to safely get up that high? I've done fans, but this is a bit sketchy...

    Makita Addiction Thread

I have an old Makita drill my dad bought in 1987. I still have the invoice from the hardware store in it. If I can get a pic up of it soon I will

Snap Ring Removal on the Cheap?

Why and how would any tool for DIY be a waste? Don't we need them for DIY? I have acquired many sets of tools for DIY and find that even if you just use one a few times it pays for itself and the whole set after a handful of uses. 70% of my tools are over 20 years old and have likely paid for...

    Multitool? How to buy it?

I'm team blue thanks to Dad. Still have some of his corded tools from the 80's that are great. I have all Makita cordless stuff so I went w/ the new XMT04ZB starlock. AMAZING tool so quiet, no vibration and comfy to hold. If you have a battery platform go w/ that as it makes the most sense...

Oscillating multi-tools -- what do you actually use it for?

Don't get me started. When I moved in I found that a lot of the light fixtures had no bulbs in them. I called my contact and was pissed. I said if you bought a Ferrari and it had no headlights would you be happy? He said, "Well, since you closed already, we can't come in and put them in, but...

Doyle?? Best Cheap Rivet Nut/Nutsert Tool?

Astro was what I got to mount a-track rails in my '04 taco bed for movable tie downs. I put in four 4' sections on the floor, tailgate and the rail on the front of the bed. Worked great, but I had room to work too... I use those to secure gear and my cooler when I go to Moab to wheel and camp...

Snap Ring Removal on the Cheap?

Right tool for the job even if it's a cheap option. That said.... I literally just bought the Knipex 8 piece set and got it on Wednesday. That thing has been sitting in my Amazon wish list for 2 years waiting for it's job calling. Well it came. I only need one set of those for this job, but...

Oscillating multi-tools -- what do you actually use it for?

Short story. Read the first sentence below. And I'll add that it was fantastic for that job and a few others since. The Makita is fantastic. Smooth, very quiet, and has almost no vibration. I picked up the new Makita XMT04ZB a few months back for some plumbing work. Our builder installed...

How important is country of origin to you?

Tekton is now my go to for sockets and other tools I don't have or need to replace. The fall of Sears and subsequently Craftsman has opened my eyes to other tools like Knipex, Klein, Wera, Koken and a bunch of others. I have a **** ton of my dads Cman stuff but I checked out long ago.

how many carb tools does one need?

I'll have to remember to think like that when my now 8 year old son inevitably misplaces or destroys a tool. Maybe that's why my dad never got mad at me for breaking things...:headscrat:beer:
