    Starrett 98-8

If you search eBay with 'Exact 96-8', there is a new one in the wooden box. I should have added - the vial in my 96-8 Exact level is marked 0.005 inches/foot, which is the same for the Starrett 98-6 vials. I have seen other Exact levels, but 12 inch models with the same Phillips screws, that...

    Starrett 98-8

I am calling the glass tube & bubble the 'vial' - that's how Starrett refers to them. Here's the part for the 98-6 and it has dimensions too - I don't know if this is the same dimensions as the Exact 96-8: https://www.starrett.com/metrology/product-detail/15026-0 Lists as factory only, but...

    Starrett 98-8

I believe that's its an Exact model 96-8. I have one that is very similar to yours and am trying to replace the plumb level - the main level in mine is intact. Guessing that they were a cheaper alternative to a Starrett. Earlier Starrett models were 94- and then 96- (I think), so the Exact...

    inexpensive code reader

I have a BlueDriver too after having owned a couple of generic ones. I really like it, and it’s far easier to use and does a lot more than the others that preceded it. Plus it gets updated frequently with firmware, software for free. I’ve never run into a vehicle yet that it didn’t connect to...

    Magnetic work lights.

I just got one of the HF Braun’s too. It’s pretty nice for what it is, and as SV says, has a very strong magnet, much stronger than other magnetic base flashlights I own. The ability to swap out batteries is a huge plus. I also have one of the Astro Pneumatic 40SL clones. I actually like it...

Looking for a good Digital caliper

I own Mitutoyo and others. The fit and finish of the mitutoyos are far above any cheaper set that I have, and they are remarkable at how well they keep zero. That said, I also have a pair that I got off of amazon for a little more than $16 that does fractions. They have a huge number of...

    Scan tools that actively monitor?

BlueDriver owner too, having owned other cheaper ones, it’s like night and day in terms of usefulness.

First Oil Change in Garage ...

I’ll echo the cardboard. Whenever we get anything that comes in a large cardboard box, I save it for working under the cars. After it gets too bad from spills, I take it to the recycling center and pull out the next. I had a friend stay at the house once and he needed to put a new rack in his...

    HF Braun Slim LED Worklight

That’s interesting and what happened to me, just an unceremonious completed with a $0.00 charge. Never did try to order again however. Maybe I’ll hit the lottery.

Difficulty in tracing air piping leak

I have a similar system that was fine when I set it up, then leaked badly once winter rolled around. It was leaking in the 90 degree elbows. I backed off of the screws that held the clips holding the pipe and reseated the elbows and it stopped. I’ve also loosened all of the screws holding...

No matter how many X I have, I can never find any...

Update: cleaning the garage over the last week and have found at least 12 squares of various configuration, fixed, try, rafter, combo, etc.. so, answer is now squares. Good news though, found three old Stanley chisels, 60 and 40 (s), and a few Nicholson files.

    Fixed base or plunge router???

Agree, get both, especially if you’re thinking of a router table. I’ve actually used nothing but porter cable for forever. Never thought about any others, but mine go back pre-Dewalt too.

    Latest opinions on scanner

Maybe not what you’re looking for function wise, but I have the BlueDriver module for iOS and think it is fantastic for what I have used it for. That said, I’ve never needed to scan ABS, etc., and I think that functionality depends on car model, etc. I do like the feature that suggests fixes...
