Learn About Stainless Steel from SASSDA

... I had never heard of them, either--but they have a nice series of articles on stainless steel. Here's the ToC: Classification, Typical Properties and Applications Stainless Steel and Corrosion The Welding of Stainless Steel The Mechanical Properties of Stainless Steel The Fabrication of...

Found some Metric only (or mostly Metric only) tool kit options at Amazon

Holy heck, if I weren't already a happy man with Gear Wrench, I would jump on this. $256 is a good price for 62 pieces of S&K. You people had better be snatching these up and showing them love--as in making them work for you and not sit in a drawer.

    Anyone else like Channellocks?

I didn't mean to bash Channellock too much in my last post, because their circlip pliers have served me well. In fact, that's my #1 recommendation from their lineup.

    Show your new tool arrivals

USA-made, 17-piece Craftsman driver set was $20 as part of Kmart's Fourth of July sale. I couldn't not buy it. You already know what it looks like, so no picture.

    Anyone else like Channellocks?

The use of rivets in pliers and scissors has always confused me, though I suppose rivets could be replaced with nuts and bolts, when they inevitably wear. More recently (within the past 10-20 years?), Channellocks have changed their rivets from flush to protruding for at least some of their...

Replacement 5/16 shank tips for impact screwdriver?

Bomb-proof? This happened on the second strike. I will try another brand next time.

    Extractor overview (pic heavy)

Timeless Thread I read every post in this thread, and there is one thing I do not fully understand: I understand "axial load" to more or less indicate application of downward pressure to the fastener (or "pushing the fastener in"). If this understanding is correct, why would a tap socket be...

I need a really good wire crimper

The best wire crimper I have had the pleasure of using was a Lobster AK-15, pictured here. It was old as hell by the time I got to it, but the self-locking mechanism sprung back like it was only a day old. I would get a used one in a heartbeat.

Wishing the US would formally change to the metric system

I think part of the reason imperial measurements stick around is because of how easy they are to pronounce. "Mile," "inch," "ounce." You get more bang for your syllable buck than "kilometer," "centimeter," or "milliliter."

Am I finished as a welder?

The way I see it, deteriorating eyesight is just Nature's way of giving the youngins a fighting chance against all that veteran know-how. Here's hoping you find the right helmet to make 'em work harder for it. ;)

Stainless Steel Socket Wrench Sockets... Cracking?

The literature says 400 series and 17-4, but it doesn't say where each alloy was used. Amen to rust cancer. I already broke the rules when I opened up the ratchet, though. 😕 I'll have to be more mindful..

    high quality portable toolboxes?

This is all right up my alley. I'm currently looking for something semi-portable to load on a bus. The Pelican 0450 and Montezumas have my interest.

Stainless Steel Socket Wrench Sockets... Cracking?

This is one of the reasons I had. I also plan on using these in a saltwater environment. Other possibly reasons to buy stainless include the ability to autoclave or use certain detergents in order to meet sterility requirements. I appreciate the words of caution and look forward to using...

Stainless Steel Socket Wrench Sockets... Cracking?

The irregularities only occur in socket sizes 1/2", 12 mm, and above, for a total of 18 of 26 pieces. The maker seems to be relatively new, which is why I am cautious. They are called Pacific Professional Tool Company and are based out of Taiwan, though literature accompanying the set mentions...
