Steel Pier and Laminated Wood Column For Post Frame Building

Wood and steel can be a great combination. Done that myself alot. But then, I weld and can fab up brackets and such. I really like your ideas for the columns. I highly approve of the design.

Steel overhang off a shipping container workshop

The snow doesn’t care about me or you. It’s not going to give you time to remove it. Maximum load would be after it fell. I hear people who don’t understand this and think the structure has to get tired and not fail til after awhhile. Thats not how it works. It gets overloaded, it can go down at...

    Reclaimed wood sources

If the wood is hard like oak or hickory, you’ll have to pre-drill for nails. When they fastened it, it was green and soft. They wouldn’t have bothered to dry it for 2 years, either:

A company like King (architectural) can furnish hinges, latches and things like those curved, forged pieces to weld onto the 2 uprights. Good luck. If you don’t...

    Century Old Flooring Question

Truth is, I bought an old house with floors just like yours 4 years ago. The old lady kept wanting me to do th floors first, opposite of what you normally do. After doing a lot of work on walls, demolition, new plumbing, I wised up and started to realize that my contractor friend was right: eed...

    Century Old Flooring Question

Ronin, I’m probably like you: not bothered by a few bugs. I grew up in Houston: roach country. Just sayin.

    Century Old Flooring Question

Yeah, when the old lady sees roaches crawling up into the nice, warm house, she might not be groovin on the cross-flow trip so much anymore. Not that you can keep them out anyway. But at least she doesn’t have to see them so conspicuously coming up through the gaps.
