Dayton motor on 16" exhaust fan - help troubleshoot

Hi all, I installed a 1/20hp Dayton 16" shutter-mount exhaust fan in my garage. It was new old-stock. It worked for about an hour and then slowed way down. Now when I turn it on, it spins at about half speed. The shutters aren't seized. The fan blades spin freely. The bearings feel good and...

Lapidary GemLap 5A - bearing removal

The bearing ID is 5/8”. The steel flange/washer is not a part of the shaft, is it? That would not have been milled that way, right? If the steel washer moves it will have to come up over the threaded part because its ID is 1/2”.

Lapidary GemLap 5A - bearing removal

Hey all, I’m trying to replace the bearings on this old flat lap, but I’m having a bear of a time separating these final pieces. I got the first bearing and the whole shaft out of the housing using a my brother’s hydraulic press. I’m hoping to learn a bit more before trying to press this apart...

Looking for guidance to take apart a vintage belt-drive grinder arbor

The bolts are only on one side, as if they pinch the shaft in place. I have the bolts and just removed them for cleaning. But this is as open as the mandrels can get. I've seen similar grinders online that have four bolts, and the entire top lifts off. But this isn't designed that way.

Looking for guidance to take apart a vintage belt-drive grinder arbor

Huge thanks. After I got it a bit cleaner, I saw that these are indeed babbit bearings. I'll leave them be and just get it as clean as possible without taking it apart. I'll be using it for lapidary work, so I'll have it stepped down to a lower speed for sure. Probably under 1725.

I hear you. I'd still like to get this apart to clean it, but I'll look into fitting a leather belt.

Hm. No I don't, but that looks amazingly useful. I didn't know these existed. I'll look into getting one of these.

Looking for guidance to take apart a vintage belt-drive grinder arbor

Hi all, first time posting. I've done some sifting through old posts, but I couldn't find anything that quite matched. Please let me know if I overlooked something. I'm trying to take apart this old grinder arbor. I'd like to swap out the pulley so it's v-belt driven and not flat-belt. And I'd...
