    Old ****

    L. S. Starrett is still present in Athol, Ma and still makes precision tools in USA. Not sure what they make in Athol. I drove through their compound in 2017 on a fine summer day, on the old Mohawk Trail, the compound is old and worn but well alive. An employment office on the interior...

Help with ID on Craftsman Ignition Pliers?

I play with them at my desk while talking on phone with my Boss in Toronto. Coffee cup of stuff like this for desk art; forceps, needle nose, jewelers files, diamond hone... One may also chew up tiny hex heads inside a distributor...

    Duff Mfg. Jack Stands

Looks like they fold for stowage in a trunk and it is gravity that prevents that while under weight. $650? I will keep an eye out in rural New England, target price $20. Most likely will never see them again.

    Unclutter a cluttered workbench

Quite the transformation. I have my bench grinder mounted on a slab of plywood big enough so it wont ever tip over. Rubber feet under. It goes under the bench when not in use. Next to the belt sander and table saw, down under. My second bench has a vice on a movable platform, same setup. I...

    Unclutter a cluttered workbench

Part 2- my own rule of storage is it should be 70% full. More than that and you need more storage, less than that and you are not busy enough. 70% simply looks right to me. I envy you your fun with this project.

    Unclutter a cluttered workbench

I suggest a shift in basic view of bench's role may be in order. LS6T points out it looks more like a shelf than a bench. You need more storage and a clean, well lighted empty bench. I am old enough to have taken "shop" in high school and remember instructor yelling "Clean Up!" 5 minutes...

Would you sell all your tools and quit DIY if your workshop was costing you money?

Great question and lots of good comments here. I started at age 3, holding a flashlight over my dad's shoulder, reaching for tools, "gimme the nine sixteenths open end." Quickly graduated to commenting on his strategy and progress. "The flat washer goes inside the lock washer, Dad." Now I...

Garage Door Issue - Need Advice/Recommendations

Agree, he should just slap new ones in other holes and do not over tighten. This is a ten minute repair plus shopping for hardware and cleanup. To the OP the thing holding old bolts in is the skin of metal of the door. Interior foam is just foam, it holds the skin in place but nothing else...

    Something my concrete guy suggested.

Snowmelt backs in my garage door which does not face into the wind. Agree the depression would work without edges.

    Z Garage [ 28' x 28' Suburban Detached ]

Very nice. Glad its bright white inside. Inside lights in the right place. Outside lights- no glare, pretty parts. Really great work.

    44 Bikes Frame Shop

Good stuff. Thanks for the great read. I also have shop in NH (03832) but its not like yours. Mine was already clean and square, now modestly equipped for weekend hobby vehicles. I have four tentative recommendations. 1- Try Craig Deoxit on the Bridgeport switchery. It works well on...
