Wood Chisels - General Use - Who Makes a Quality Product These Days?

I suspect she would be appeased by my pie making abilities. There was a point in my life, not too long ago, where I had simultaneous subscriptions to Fine Woodworking, Small Arms Review, and Martha Stewart Living.

Wood Chisels - General Use - Who Makes a Quality Product These Days?

One and the same. Aldi's "Workzone" brand, four for $15 circa 2015. They sharpen fine and hold an edge pretty well. I also have zero guilt whacking them with a hammer. They also do the job chisels are meant to do about as well as any other. I get good-naturedly teased sometimes for...

Wood Chisels - General Use - Who Makes a Quality Product These Days?

You can sharpen a chisel to shaving-sharp with three pieces of sandpaper and 15 minutes of effort. I have a $600 set of hand-turned chisels. I use a $15 dollar set of chisels from Aldi 99% of the time. A sharp $4 chisel beats a dull $100 chisel all day long.

I absolutely love Kaizen foam for toolbox shadowing!

So I am not as much of a fan as I had hoped to be. I found the foam to not peel very easily or controllably, the knife worked great for the first few cuts but dulled quickly, and the pattern marker dried up quick. I had a bunch of loose AR punches and tools just sort of jumbled in a box. And...

Want to buy a new table saw

Sure, the guy's a litigious jerk who made a lot of money. He also makes a really great saw. If we stopped using every good or service provided by litigious jerks who made a lot of money, where would we be now? It is a really good saw.

Want to buy a new table saw

You can pick up a contractor saw pretty cheap and stretch it pretty far. I bought a contractor's saw brand new on clearance from Lowes for $300 in 2004. A little melamine, some angle iron, some hinges and paint, and it went from this: To this: Mine was all folding because I have to move...

    Too cold for F40T12?

The lights never come on at all. Given that the fixture is 15 years old and the only thing I've ever replaced were the bulbs, I figure any number of things could be broken. I am awash in T8 bulbs, so if all it would take to switch is a new ballast circuit, that might be the way to go. Are the...

    Too cold for F40T12?

I have a 15 year old Craftsman workbench with an integrated two light F40-T12 fixture. I just replaced the bulbs a month or two back. Hit a bad cold snap in my unheated, uninsulated garage, and now both lights are out. The garage is usually about 10° warmer than ambient during the winter...

Surface Mounted Lighting / Flourescent Fixture Question

Honestly, I didn't know you could do that. I've never really looked at the boxes. Do the holes line up to be screwed into the round ceiling box? That would be a pretty simple solution if it works.

Surface Mounted Lighting / Flourescent Fixture Question

I know enough to replace light fixtures and mount ceiling fans, but beyond that, my knowledge is limited. I can't find the correct terms for what I want to do in Google, perhaps because you are not supposed to do it. Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated. I have an...
