Putting in ceiling & insulation into shop: tired of extreme temps

Yeah, I still need to know the weight limits of these trusses. I might not have any wiggle as it stands. The metal will not absorb any sound and I think wood will be nicer. Obviously, it has to be within the budget. Waiting to hear back from the building company before proceeding in any...

Putting in ceiling & insulation into shop: tired of extreme temps

I called the company who put it up, waiting for an answer on load rating. The trusses are a double fink layout, with a 2x8 top plate and a 2x6 bottom plate of SP #1. The webbing is 2x4 SP #2. I'll report back what I find out. If it's not rated for that, then I guess my next step is to start...

Thanks for the reply. Here's the stamp on the trusses, looks like that is just a lumber-grading stamp. I'll see if i can find specific lumber info

Putting in ceiling & insulation into shop: tired of extreme temps

I was going to use metal per my original post but I've decided to do ply on the ceiling. Any concern with 15/32 ply sheathing as the ceiling choice? I'll be blowing cellulose R-30+ above. I'm internally debating between hanging studs 3', 3', 2' OC (the 2' for panel overlaps) between the bays...

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Shop of Right Livelihood

More plastic pulled, more walls built in place between the studs, more tripping over stuff piled 'just outside' of the space needed for the ladders, more Moving that lumber pile from my rack and then dismantling was not what I would call...fun. Most of those boards are 2 or 2.5" thick, many...

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Shop of Right Livelihood

So I completely forgot about this thread after getting the space useable. I'm now in the process of a complete overhaul. Tired of selling my soul with dreams of 'one day' getting to the work I want to do. I'd rather burn midnight oil than watch another day go by without pursuing my dreams...

Does anyone regret installing high bay lighting in their shop?

N/M - just called the company and confirmed these are not dimmable. I'm going to run 2 distinct branches so the lighting can be reduced during daytime.

Does anyone regret installing high bay lighting in their shop?

Resurrecting this, we purchased a lot of lights for the shop and I think I've overdone it. We purchased: https://www.primelights.com/products/led-6-lamp-t8-stingray-6xl-highbay-fixture-132-watts-clear-pl-6srhbld132xlfm I'm in the process of overhauling the space and I'm going to put the...

Putting in ceiling & insulation into shop: tired of extreme temps

Here's my starting point: I pulled the OSB down where we've had some water damage before and then pulled the plastic that was stapled up and you can see current condition: If you guys have water damage/mold on your purlins girts, do you guys treat it with anything? I'm going to fill in...

If you don't mind a few more questions: Did you frame between the trusses @ 4' OC? It looks like it wasn't evenly spaced? Were they 10' panels? Where did you purchase your ceiling panels/liner panel?

Thanks for the reply racecougar. I'm guessing the purlin's will be replaced since they said they were unable to catch anything with their screws the last time they came out. They'll hopefully be out next week to review/take a look and give me an idea of what will happen. I'll look for the...

Putting in ceiling & insulation into shop: tired of extreme temps

We have a 60x40 shop space that has the worst insulation. Someone convinced my grandpa to install 1/2" foamboard with a vapor barrier stapled over it. This needs to be entirely redone. I'm going to call the company who put up the building originally to get the clear ridge replaced with metal...

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Shop of Right Livelihood

I was able to get the metal roofing on before the rains and we got the DC upright but it's a little low so I'm going to need to raise it, not sure how I'm going to do that but it needs to go up another foot. I could get a chain hoist and attach up top or we could some kind of supportive...

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Shop of Right Livelihood

Hi everyone, I've begun the process of retrofitting a workshop that my grandfather built over 20 years ago. It currently only has two windows facing northwest. It is 2000 sq ft and I've been offered a part of it to use as my wood shop. I'll be retrofitting some clerestory windows for more...
