Do you have a lathe? If so, chuck it up. Otherwise, I would go with drilling a hole in some wood, but just slightly smaller than the ball, smack it in and go from there. Yep, grind a small flat on it before using your center drill.

For your own use on a tool like this, I would go cheap. I ended up making my own, due to space limitations.
