Planning my first garage (a 30' x 23' three car), could use some input.

In my case, the stump was off to the side and didn't get in the way of the pad. After the garage was built I went out and cut it down flat with the ground and it's slowly rotted away to nothing. If the pad was going to be on top of the stump that might have been a different matter, but with...

The final garage was 24 x 24 with a roof high just shy of 10'. I had to settle for less to get it built under city bylaw restrictions. That said, it's still pretty big and towers over anything the neighbors have.

Your guess was close. That's actually a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado, the biggest car I've ever encountered. Sadly, it's gone now as it belonged to a friend of mine who sold it. Fun while it lasted. When parked in the garage I had maybe 3 feet of clearance at the front end of the car with the...

I went with 24" OC with 2x6 walls, specifically for increased insulation value and reduced thermal bridging, as you mentioned. I haven't gotten around to insulating yet, but when done this garage will be warmer that my house.

Mr. Foully, Thanks for the input. I've actually had the garage constructed for a few years now. I ended up with a 24' x 24' setup with 10' ceilings, as high as I could go. The door was an 8' door. The final plan was decided based on heavy restrictions by local building codes, as soon as I...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Can anyone tell me where to find the catalog files that feed into Dialux? I'm trying to model my garage using the program but I'm unable to find literally any catalogs for lighting I can buy, they only seem to have a selection of high end corporate stuff. I can't find "Luminus", or...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Thanks revamped. Funny thing, I never thought of running my own electrical as I'm usually cautious about stuff like that, but I have done simple electrical work before. It now occurs to me that this garage electrical will probably be simple too, so perhaps I can do it myself. Thanks Platonic...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

revamped, Thanks for the input. The garage is newly built, and when built I already had the electrician install a 60 amp sub panel to support electric car charging and power outlets all over the place. But when it came to lighting they had no clue, they simply asked me what I want and were...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Hello, It's come time for me to figure out lighting for my new garage and I'm in full paralysis mode. Looking at this and the "Best Fixture" threads has been an information overload, especially since threads go back so long and technology is now different. Perhaps someone can direct me? I...

Looks like Imgur isn't hosting nicely, I'm seeing broken image links. See the images attached to this post.

matt_i, If I build a typical 24'x24' size I can do a simple "slab on grade" foundation, as I understand it. However, once I go bigger than that the cost and complexity jumps greatly. Specifically, the city states "Any garage that exceeds 592 square feet in floor area shall have a concrete...

Hello, This is my first post at these forums though I've lurked for a little while. It seems that if I spent enough time here I'd know everything there ever was to know about garages, however I need to hurry if I'm going to get one built this summer. I've been agonizing over the plans for...
