    Fun project for me...

Hey, Davo. Not picking, I just wanted to correct your statement real quick. You don't adjust amperage on a "mig" machine. You adjust voltage. The WFS accounts for the amperage. GMAW and FCAW are done with a CV power source and the stickout length and wire feed speed is what controls amperage.

    Welding Jigs, Holdfasts

Holdfasts are really cool, and I really admire the old woodworking benches, but I have never had any issues just using c-clamps. If a c-clamp or a set of 11R vicegrips cant do it on their own, I am not above welding up a jig. I just don't see it being practical to build a specialty table for use...

    Piecing together a welder

I realize that it doesn't really matter, but I wanted to correct my previous post. The little MIG machine I have at the house is a SP-125, not a SP-140. The XMT 304 is another good one, I like my Lincolns better, but I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

Hey, Thanks! I did it with fluxcore wire- Not necessarily because it's my process of choice, it was just what I had handy.

    Piecing together a welder

This is very true. We have several Lincoln Invertec V350 multi-process welders at the shop that I absolutely love. I am sure you don't want to spend ~$5,000 though. I have a Lincoln MIG welder at the house that I run fluxcore out of. I think it's a SP-140, but I'm not positive on that. Something...

Finally figured out what to do with cheap garage sale vise! (Check it out)

Sweet! That is fantastic! There is nothing wrong with innovating on someone else's idea- especially when you can do it better yourself.

    Dual Grinder Setup

I like the idea. My problem with mounting grinders has always been keeping it stable enough to prevent the noise and rattling around that always seems to happen. I really like the idea of using square tubing and a hitch receiver to adjust your length. By bolting the base flush to the wall I...

Thanks, DarkMonohue! I love welding with old horseshoes! We have coat hooks, paper towel holders, boot scrapers, trivets/pot stands, and gun racks made out of horseshoes all over the house. It's a gateway drug....

Horseshoe Firepit Just tacked together, nothing uber demanding or pretty- I mean, I built it to burn stuff in. I will be welding up a windbreak out of 1/4" sheet soon, that will actually require a little bit of real welding :D

    (y) Awesome!

    Arc welding question.

Sureshot- You leave your logic out of this! 6010 spatter is the most effective tool known to man for teaching proper (read: low pain) technique and form. You're not welding till your fancy welding shirt is burning!

Oh, and it would look way better in Lincoln red ;D

    welding trailer

I'm tracking now. Very nice! I would love to see a build thread, and I really want to see this guy all loaded up! Keep up the great work, brother!

    First Milling project

Nice job! Now go get yourself a couple of AR-15 lower receiver billets ;) That's where the money is at right now, man. That. Would be fun.

    Arc welding question.

skwirl- On my welding table I have a ring welded to the side that I just hook the stinger to like others have mentioned. If I stop welding in the middle of a rod- say I am tacking up several pieces- I will typically leave the electrode clamped in the stinger and due to the nature/location of the...
