The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Ainsley - that restored tool box is very very nice. Your son should be well pleased. John.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Another small vice and a tiny one. The record is a no. 0 - I put a wooden base on it as it is heavy enough for anything I'll use it for. The smaller vice is a decent size for holding wires (a third hand). I made a delrin holder for it that goes into an indicator holder (Harold Hall design)...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

A number of years ago I bought a non swivel Record #3 - this was when Irwin sold out the Record stock and moved production off shore (as I recall). Recently found the swivel version - in very good shape - and bought it. It is missing the two handles used to lock the swivel - I'd rather use a...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Another very small vice I obtained last summer: I had to make a handle for it but otherwise it's quite usable. John.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I bought two of these over the last 6 months or so - one for $12 and one (in worse shape) for $5. They are Stanley No. 700 clamp on vices. The green one is the latest and will go to my son-in-law. Just replaced the jaws on this - otherwise no work done. Replaced the jaws, derusted...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I bought this small box (14 in. length) yesterday for $5. It's a beach in good shape with a very nice decal inside. The latch is a bit unique and works well: I suspect it's fairly old. John.

    drying an air compressor hose

Thanks for the ideas about drying the hose. I'll blow it out a few times and that should do it. I did have to pay 12 percent tax but it was in a much depreciated Can dollar:lol: John

    drying an air compressor hose

I do have an air dryer (not hooked up now) that I could always use between the hose and any air tools that I hook up. I was going to use my pin nailer after putting the reel to use but was afraid to blow a bunch of moisture into it so used some screws instead. As you mentioned I suspect using...

    drying an air compressor hose

I was at the local metal salvage yard today - first time in a long time. They had little of interest however I did spot a fairly small Reelcraft hose reel with a hose installed. It was in fairly good shape just needing a bit of straightening of the reel itself and a bit of cleaning. I made a...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

zkling - thanks for the info on the snapon box. I thought I'd seen one similar away back in this thread but couldn't recall where. I will admit that side handles would be easier to use but I won't be moving it much once it has a place in my shop. I've bought several new plastic boxes in the...

    Panasonic ERV review (FV-04VE1)

Dennis Thanks for posting the review. I'd be interested in further info on solar heating the air intake side. We have grid tied Pv And solar hot water on our house but in winter it's usually cloudy. Solar Heating the air intake may work during the shoulder seasons though. John

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I noticed this advertised locally (online) this morning. Could not tell the make or much detail as the photos weren't very good. It wasn't till I got home with it that I noticed it was a snapon. Turns out I knew the young lady selling it so we had a good chat as I was looking at the box. A...

That's a very nice machine and the restore was beautifully done. I don't doubt you sold it quickly. John.

    2016 Garage Sale Thread

Davefr - you indeed did well. Nice bunch of tools. We have a local flea market each sunday morning - indoors still but will be outdoors and larger in a month or so. I find a few interesting tools for low prices usually. Found this one today - what I've always called a "crescent wrench" but...

    Let's see your toolbox.

Gents Thanks for the replies regarding my "Canadian" craftsman box. It is likely that it was made by beach in Canada for Sears - from info I found in another thread. I could find no numbers stamped on it but will keep looking. John.
