Trying to unhoard the hoarder's hoard with the help of a horde.

Dude, I get where you're at with projects. I've had stuff that's broke, but I can fix it. But never do. Then one day walk by and figure out the engine's stuck. What a relief. Push it in the scrap dumpster and be done. No more agonizing about fixing it. I tell people being handy is a curse not...

    Do I need 3/8" sockets?

Yes. Buy 3/8 I use all pretty equally depending on what I'm doing. I'm surprised you've gotten by without a 3/8 set.

Great thought on a lift regarding door size. Looks like it's moving right along.

    Installing OSB on interior walls

some of my osb went ziggy zaggy and some of it stayed nice and straight. Not sure if it was the brand or install method or humidity when installed. Or??? I still like it but may have done steel on the roof and osb on the walls.

How do you store your tie-downs and ratchets?

I always thought socks would make great storage bags for ratchet straps. Every strap gets it's own sock and then all the socks get thrown in a bag or toolbox. Would keep them from getting tangled and a pack of socks is dirt cheap. My dad winds his up and it takes forever. I currently do the...

2-speed rear end in a half ton pickup??

2-speed is possible. Problem is they end up being big rearends that would seem to be Overkill in a 1/2 ton truck. When i looked into it it seemed like you would end up running big truck 19" plus tires and rim options would be scarce. Unless you used a center section and used 1/2 ton axle ends to...

    Building fastener inventory?

I buy bags or lbs of stuff everytime I buy. My biggest problem is I don't organize it. I live atleast 5 minutes from any nuts & bolt and if it's sunday that turns into 30 minutes. So I like to stock. But mainly 1/2" & under. And I never stock metric accept used fasteners I pull from wrecked cars...

Truck advice - school me on pre-Super Duty ford diesels

Check out Oilburners.net for good info on ford diesel trucks. I personally love my 89 crewcab with a 7.3 IDI diesel. It's simple to work on and non-computer controlled. The diesel is not "cheap", but the older 6.9 and 7.3 IDI (indirect injection) ford/IH diesels are cheap by diesel standards. I...

    Show Room or Work Shop?

Nothing wrong with organizing and cleaning. Couple times a year I have a come to Jesus moment in the shop. Put all the hand tools in the cabinet, sweep up real well, throw out the scrap etc. Now I do a good job of keeping all the sockets and hand tools in their holders arranged by size. I used...

    big wheel high clearencefloor jack?

I read about a guy putting bigger wheels on his floor jack in one of the 4x4 mags years ago. It did hurt the rating of the jack, but I never pickup 3 ton on my floor jack. Normally it's half of a 4,000 lb vehicle. So that would be around 2,000 lb. 4 wheels with a 500 lb capacity and you are...

My $105 month in shop equipment

Those kellers are pretty cool. I just rounded one of those up this weekend. Good luck with it. Mine was sitting outside and after a quick rewire it works. My clamps aren't complete like yours are though. Nice haul.

Harbor Freight R134A Refrigerant Gauge - Opinions?

I have had excellent luck with my hf Gage set and venturi vacuum pump. I have done probably 20 cars with this stuff. I'll probably grab another set at the current price. I initially bought a Gage set at a local parts store and the hoses kept blowing apart. My hf set has been good other than the...

I tripped my 30amp breaker all the time with my Lincoln. Now I upgraded to a 50amp and have had no more problems.
