    Metal roof over shingles ?

Got the final quote today. Doing the right thing is going to cost almost double but that is the upfront cost. More than likely cheaper in the long run. We will strip it down and use the insulated reflective material with wood battens. Should be good for years. I still have two months before we...

Ok Everlast also offers the standing seam roof that claims to be a 24 gauge metal so it will cost more. Off to investigate next week we will see if its in the budget. Sure glad this wont happen before July. Thanks for all the input

    Metal roof over shingles ?

Yes I am definitely leaning towards towards tearing off the shingles for all the reasons already mentioned. As for condensation would it be trapped by the horizontal wood strips? Also is the reflective underlayment a replacement for 50# paper or do you use both

    Metal roof over shingles ?

Been shopping for a new metal roof over for the house with worn shingles. The contractors are offering various methods. First leaving shingles and directly attaching the steel panels . Option two is placing wood battens horizontally with steel on top. Option three is stripping the roof putting...

    blinking lights

no dimmer and they are a small base lamp. We are not exceeding the watts but that limiter itself failed. I wired around completely and left the factory connections in there in case I needed to order the damn thing and put it back. When I told a coworker about this he had trouble in his rented...

    blinking lights

The lights on one of our ceiling fans was blinking wildly sometimes or would not come on at all. After repeated testing of switches and connections i found a wattage limiter built in to the light system. The bulbs are the correct ones so i bypassed the limiter. Everything works now but did i...

Tips for replacing deck on steel flatbed

Today I was able to see remains of short welds on the edge of the c channel crossmembers. They seem solid and it looks like they should have used the same channel to make side frames from instead of bending the diamond plate. I know all the grain bodies have and exterior frame.

Tips for replacing deck on steel flatbed

I have not noticed any spongy areas except right on thr rust thru spots. I am thinking that is where the beads may have been run on the c channel . It needs a bath when it warms up then maybe I can tell

Tips for replacing deck on steel flatbed

I will get some pics when the snow gets off and its not below zero. The crossmembers are channel and I don't see signs of spot welding maybe some short bead underneath the dirt.I have given the plate over some thought but I have to cut the side rails off to plate over the sides I thought I might...

Tips for replacing deck on steel flatbed

A recent purchase was a really good 93 one ton 4wd truck but the steel flatbed is rusted through at several points on most of the crossmembers. Is the steel decking typicaly welded at all the crossmebers or just at the ends ? I have not took it off yet as I need to use it for now. The floor is...

Need help identifying use of odd pliers and puller

The pliers are for the spring style hose clamps as already mentioned I always called em effin maytag clamps. I got my first pair of those pliers last summer and have used them 5 or 6 times already handy as sliced bread. The other tool I thought might be an old school brake spring tool but thats...
