I got it, thanks for the tip. I see where the grease would help hold it while assembling. It just fell out when I took the thing apart months ago and was not positive where it went when I put it back together today.

I see a flat channel it could sit on but nothing to secure it when the jaws are open . By chance do you have a photo ?

Any idea where this piece goes? It is a triangular shape and about half the width of the jaws. I feel as it came from inside the vise somewhere but cannot recall or see where. It works and swivels fine.
