I've been close to building a unit with rails to slide small-parts containers in, but a kitchen speed rack showed up free on Craigslist, and all it needed was some rails removed and the width narrowed for most of it:
For something like that, you’d be better off modeling it from scratch instead of scanning, which would be more appropriate for an arbitrary, curved surface that is hard to model accurately.
Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm pretty pleased for a first attempt. I think next time I'll polish the pieces before welding, and then do a little cleanup afterward. It'll be a lot easier to work with flat pieces.
I'm not sure if I came across sendcutsend on a thread here; it has been posted here. Regardless, it seemed like an easy way to put something together. I wanted to make a stand to stack a few bowls for fruit on the kitchen counter. My mom is a hobby potter and made me a set of matching bowls. I...

It has been great for me. I ended up putting in four large tiles, leveled with each other, to use as a reference plane for alignments. They sit about 1/2-3/4" above the garage floor and are enough for the arms to clear my car without additional blocks.
I do sometimes wish I had gotten the...
Makes sense, thank you. I have an '06 Tundra double cab. I lift it on the frame rails and they are the lowest point so it sounds like I should be okay.
