Can tube fixtures be mounted sideways (vertically)? If so, could it be a good strategy in my case?

On the center ceiling beam, mount a couple of 2-lamp floodlight fixtures, and have the bulbs cast across the ceiling. Come away from the walls a bit (leave room from shelves) and use 4ft LEDs across. The angle will cast light back into the shelves a little...

    Powder coat oven

We just went through this - acquired a spare oven/range for some home-cooked powdercoating in the shop. I temporarily swapped the welder receptacle for one that matched the pigtail on the oven/range. Flipped the breaker, and did our cooking, everything worked just fine, even the digital...

Can I use this to turn my compressor on and off?

I was implying my thought about the sticker that identifies it as a "service disconnect".... Not the proper definition of the device itself....

Can I use this to turn my compressor on and off?

Could the "service" in "service disconnect" be an verb? As a means to "disconnect" the power, while doing "service" to the downstream appliances? Just wondering......

Aligning a car to pull on lift

Blue painter's tape. Cheap, replaceable, and non-permanent. Our 2 post lift is installed at an angle in the barn/shop. Without the blue tape to line-up/center the approach and landing, it takes a moment or two to get a vehicle just right.

They Cut off the foundation J-Bolts?

D.Patina, keep your head up, and keep watching how things progress on your project. If you don't understand what's being done, or see something that looks out of place, reach out to others that can help. There's never a shortage of "advice" or "construction criticism". What hasn't been...

    ID this Vise

That's what I told him. I did say we would keep trying to confirm the country of origin. His reply was: "If it is from China, it will soon be going out the window to the scrap bin. Or at least until I can get a USA vice." I offered to remove it from his shop.....

Thanks Guys! Little Bro won't be too happy to hear this. He's "Made in the USA" all the way, and doesn't want anything in his shop made on the other side of the Pacific (read China). But, knowing this, and after I tell him, I may be getting a 6" vise for my new shop (the one pictured above)...

Was at my brother's shop yesterday. He was showing me his new welder and welding table he just built. Massive piece of artwork, 3'x4' with surface made out of 1" plate. Said it tops the scales at 1,100 lbs. He is an iron worker, and dabbles in blacksmithing projects on the side. But anyway, on...

    Concrete Integrity Question

The columns I'm looking at are probably boxing around round steel posts, probably with drywall applied as a finishing touch. I see a drill and some other type of item attached to it. With a few of those columns in line, they are supporting a beam (also covered with drywall). The posts will be...

"Mini garage door" as bedroom door?

To me, the grandfather has an idea of a "garage door" that would fit into the framework of a normally hinged door. "...but still want it in a frame that would open and close like a regular door..." Some fabrication work would be needed, all depending on the type of "garage door" (roll up...

Anyone use an outdoor wood stove?

My brother sells and installs these Central Boilers. Wish I had one to assist my heat pump at the house, and to heat the shop/garage.

    Laminated posts questions and concerns

Those pictures are leading me to a think a couple of things. First, IMO, they are no way complete in their assembly. A couple of air driven framing nails in the joint area are doing no good other than holding the outside board to the middle board. There's plenty of space there for a steel plate...
