    Clearance around back of fireplace??

UPDATE: The manufacturers specs don't tell me anything about clearance, but it does refer me too ANSI Z223.1; from what I've learned I think you only need 2-3 inches from any combustibles. Secondly....I think it's getting worse; they used triple wall pipe with insulation around absolutely...

    Clearance around back of fireplace??

So. This house originally had a wood burning fireplace, then a natural gas fireplace insert was installed. Is there any reason to leave all this framing on the back? or can I demo most of this and re-do the framing so it's a lot closer to the wall?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

trying to frame up my garage ceiling for insulation and tin.

Thanks everyone for the help, I think I know what I'm going to do! Hopefully I'll remember to update this thread with pictures once it's done.

The 4 lower rafter ties are just tying the far side of the garage to the house, they are not helping hold up the HVAC unit at all. There is a 3" gap in between the higher and lower set of Joists/rafters. Where would the HVAC unit be relocated to? Once it's heated I can start working out here...

Just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. You're saying just use spray foam on the roof and then hang the tin from the existing ceiling rafters? seems pretty simple. would i need to staple a vapor barrier over the spray foam?

Oh sorry I should have explained better. I didn't mean sistering, if you look at the picture where I've circled that's what I meant, how they just nailed it to the side of the 2x4. Does that seem secure enough to hold up a ceiling. Maybe I'll run a 2x4 underneath the ceiling rafters vertically...

Is it okay to add more rafters the same way they have done it? Just by screwing it to the side of the 2x4? Also how do I support them in the middle, overtime they have warped and sagged down. I could push them up and use more 2x4s to hold them there. located in north dakota

Anyone have any idea how I can frame this up? I don't even know where to start. Took a bunch of pictures hopefully you'll be able to see everything.
