Found a 1/4 ball at the local ace on the way home tonight and I'm back in business. Thanks Hiball and Edgar for the clear and concise help.

    Overseas Jack Rebuild Help Tutorial.

1/4 roll pin punch fit pretty snugly but no 1/4 inch ball bearings in the garage. I will try to source some tomorrow. What then is my order in the valve? 1/4 ball first, spring, 3/8 ball, then cap?

As instructed and you are spot on. The ball is a hair under 3/8 according to my cheapo caliper.

Is it just me or has this "ultimate shop" thing gone too far?

I find them depressing to look at since I'll never have one so nice or so big, and because it reminds me I'm halfway to dead and still kinda broke. It also reminds me I'm a sucky mechanic/carpenter/insert trade here. However they do motivate me to do a little cleanup-reorginzation of my own...

    Sears/K-Mart closing 100+ stores

I happen to like sears. (don't know much about kmart) Many of the stores by me are not in a mall which I like because of less traffic and shoppers and more parking. I like that I can go in with a busted up 10 year old ratchet and get handed a new one. I like that if I need say, one 27mm socket...
