Any Machinists Out There? What Am I Doing Wrong?

I would make the jump to fusion 360 and take advantage of the HSM toolpaths, the toolpaths created from it are the same that autodesk’s hsmworks and inventor generate. A HSM toolpaths that takes advantage of a larger depth of cut but a shallower width of cut works a lot better than a shallow...

Eastwood 135 amp welder (Mig/Tig) vs Hobart 140? What

I buy standard tips at my local welding supply. There's a lot of speculation being thrown around. I bought an Eastwood 175 because it's what I could afford and I'm not a production shop. I have ran it very hard and it has done nothing but impress me. I started with a hobart handler 140 and...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

It looks like a shear leg device. I suppose it worked well for your friend but it seems quite risky without the legs being constrained from moving towards the jeep.

That looks like it works really well, is there a name for that technique?

Tell me how I did on this estate sale purchase.

A pretty awesome looking drill press and that 1hp bench grinder w/ everything on it still, big time jealous!

Repurposing car coil springs for ????????

STI springs shouldn't be that hard to sell to someone with a plain wrx. Not sure what price you listed them at but it must have been too high.

    Dremel printer

I will wait to see the reviews. Granted a 3d printer doesn't see any real forces. Dremel's rotary tools have never impressed me though.

    Bahco Files on Amazon

I would love to purchase a couple flat and a couple round/half round files off anyone if they could be so inclined. I only have one file that has seen better days and I'm between jobs trying to do some fabrication work to keep me afloat. Thanks.

And addendum to yesterday's painted timing covers. One cylinder head painted in the same paint (took forever to mask off):

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Thanks! It was Duplicolor's engine enamel in "aluminum" color. I'm not sure if this is how the product always sprays or I got a super old can or something, but it was pretty tricky at first and wasn't how I expected it to spray. It sprays like a clear coat w/ metallic flake in it, but it...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Cleaned and painted the timing covers for my project car. Started painting the block and got the valley done but ran out of paint, oops.

    O-ring material and sizing?

An update to this thread, I spoke with someone that is more familiar than I with metric O-rings and this is what they had to say:

    O-ring material and sizing?

I would typically measure the o-rings that were used and find the closest match, but the o-rings that were used were in the engine for 100k++ miles and they are holding their "squished" shape which makes it very flat. I definitely agree that a thicker o-ring is in order, I will try some others...
