    Antique Bench

I’m restoring a similar pair of benches, we’ve lovingly dubbed this the “Duck Lion” bench, due to the funky lookin’ fella in the middle. Unless it’s supposed to be a griffin??? We’re using mahogany decking for the slats, since we’ve found it to be the cheapest option, and after ripping the...

I love the idea for this thread, I didn’t realize I needed to build one of these until now. **grabs note pad**

    Vintage Prentiss Vise No 20

Thank you very much for that. Those issues seem to be in line with what I'd expect to look for, maybe I know a little more than I thought... I'll have to make a point to fully inspect it before I make a decision of any kind. Thank you, again!

    Vintage Prentiss Vise No 20

What are the usual breaking points and what should I be looking for. There’s a somewhat cheap #19 near me, and I know next to nothing about Prentiss and rear swivel vises.

Athol Vise either 681 or 189? 4” jaws, limited paint is red. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I believe I have the bottom plate, and I'm missing the top plate as well as the screw/wrench. I checked last night and can confirm! That explains why the top half of the spindle nut was missing. Very cool, now I definitely need to find those missing pieces.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thank you! 'Lost towns' generally refers to former mill/industrial towns that don't have direct access to any major route. I've mostly heard it in reference to the towns along route 2 in Massachusetts, though it's not a common phrase to hear.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I bought this Athol 614 at a flea market last October for $60. I was building a workbench for some upcoming projects in my basement and needed a vise, I figured it was hefty and would do the trick. Growing up in Massachusetts, I only heard of Athol being referred to as one of the "lost towns"...

Picked up this Craftsman King-Seeley bandsaw model: 103.24280 over the weekend. I didn't 'need' one right now, but I will soon enough, and couldn't pass up this deal. Previous owner took excellent care of it, and used it to build some incredible model planes and carousels.
