Buying a used lift(MaxJax)..would you do it?

I mean, I'm not a good person to compare to when asking if something is DIY-friendly because I do stuff like this for a living. But it's really not bad at all. I've used the type of anchors it came with before, so I didn't have problems. But the epoxy ones are better anyways, so just call up...

Buying a used lift(MaxJax)..would you do it?

I'd totally buy one used. Not really much you can do to break one unless you REALLY abused it. Just know you'll have to buy an anchor kit, which can be around 150 bucks. You can get them on sale brand new for 2000 sometimes (which is what I paid for mine a bit over a year ago), so NEW retail...

    50x38 Detached Metal Garage Build

Re: Designing detached garage - looking for input I'm looking into building a garage out back. I've got about a 20x20 garage attached to my house with my maxjax in it currently. With tool boxes and storage and everything else, I have ZERO elbow room in there with a car up in the air. I can...

What jack stands you use with Maxjax

Well, having tall jack stands for stability is TOTALLY different than just getting jack stands because you don't feel safe. I mean, I had my car up in the air (with no engine/transmission in it) and then dropped the whole rear subframe/diff/axles/trailing arms. Pretty significant shift in...

What jack stands you use with Maxjax

The whole point in spending thousands of dollars on a lift is so that you don't have to screw with jack stands any more. I don't use anything with mine. I just had my car up there for about 3 weeks while I rebuilt the entire suspension. No problems.

    Hoist Opener

Well, you'll DEFINITELY be able to use some kind of opener, but it's not going to be any of the residential models like the liftmaster 8500. That door is much too large for one. We had some chain-drive jackshaft openers where I used to work that opened some doors about that size. They are not...

Convert 2 Singles to a Double

Yeah, that's how you'd normally do it. Make sure to ask what their hourly rate is and if they do fractional hours. My guy did 200/hour but split it every 15 minutes. He was only there for about 45 minutes, but I have a habit of being a "talker", so I got charged for an extra 15 minutes before I...

Convert 2 Singles to a Double

I did something similar in december 2014. I had two 8' doors on the front of my house under a gable end. I wanted to put in one big door so that I could pull into the center of the garage to work on cars (and install a lift). The garage is only about 19'6" wide, so pulling into either door was a...

5HP Compressor on 120V, how is this possible?

Spoken like a guy that has never used a 5 HP Vacuum. :) We use a 8 HP one here at work and let me tell you: that thing *****. It's incredible. Not used to clean carpets or anything, but if it was they'd probably be the cleanest carpets in town.

    Car batteries are pricey

Nobody is doubting that the battery was bad. But even with a completely dead battery, you should NEVER see more than about 14 volts being fed from the alternator. If it was constantly feeding 16 volts it may have been what killed your battery. Not the GPS.

    Garbage Disposals

I installed a Waste King L-8000 series about 3 years ago. It's a 1hp unit, because I wanted something that would be able to chew up anything I decided to put down it (not that I really use it for much other than veggies or egg shells). Was really reasonably priced and came highly recommended...

Shame to throw out a good Dewalt drill

I mean- there's a place for corded tools, there's a place for cordless electric, and there's a place for gas powered stuff as well. I have a nice heavy duty corded hammer drill (not SDS, just regular chuck for jobs where I need normal bits but I'll be doing a LOT of drilling), and then a nice...

Are you happy with your MaxJax

I have one and love it. I technically have the ceiling height for a full sized lift (my garage is around 12' tall) but didn't want to give up the versatility to use my garage for other things. Plus, I have a large loft above the garage door that I'd have to take down to lift a car higher than...

    Millermatic 250 advice

I have a Miller 250MP which is the 250 with a microprocessor controller. Same "guts" as the 250, though. I got it for 350 bucks, which is the only reason I bought it. At that price it'd be dumb NOT to. When I worked at a welding shop, we had several Miller 251's, a couple 200's, which are...

16' wide door with 4 point car lift - will that work well?

This. I just ripped out two 8' doors on the front of my house and put in a 17.5" door. Sure, I could have had a lift with the old setup, but it would have meant that I was always working all the way toward one wall or the other. Now when I'm working on a car I can pull it right in the middle...
