What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I fixed a JBL Xtreme3 for a friend today. It stopped charging and I traced it to a broken USB-C port. The PCB with USB and Aux ports is available (bought from Amazon) and arrived today. It was pretty straightforward to swap it out and it is charging once again!

Hard starting and Over Run fix of Generac 16kW model 0052540

FYI - this is the old switch, PN 0C3025: And this is the new switch, PN 0L2917C:

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I fixed an oil leak from the low oil pressure switch on our Generac whole-house generator. We lost power Wednesday around 10pm, and it is not expected to be restored until sometime on Sunday. Fortunately, I was able to source a new switch in town this morning. More detail here.

Hard starting and Over Run fix of Generac 16kW model 0052540

A couple of updates: 1) The battery has been working fine with the new charging board since Nov-2024. I should probably replace the battery before this Winter, however. 2) The next challenge faced with this generator came with the recent spate of storms this week. After running for about...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

My neighbor had rented a man lift for the weekend and let me use it for a few jobs when he was done with it, so I added a solar light to the flagpole outside the shop garage. And yes, Old Glory is a little faded and needs to be replaced.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Before we left for our camping trip this weekend, I took care of an issue that was bugging me on my bike. The rubber of the grip shift's center section was getting all "gooey". Every time I would grab it, I would wind up with material from it stuck to my hands. I found large heat shrink...

    Garage Door Sill Plate Seal

I purchased this seal to replace the astragal (new word for my vocabulary! :giggle:) on the two single-bay doors on my shop garage. I only needed the seals, as the track was already on the doors. I would make sure to use stainless screws when you secure yours. Mine have been on for at least 2...

Hard starting and Over Run fix of Generac 16kW model 0052540

Just a further update: The first week's exercise cycle completed successfully, but at week two's, it came back with a low battery error light. I wound up charging the battery and replacing the battery charger board. Before being replaced, with the old board, the voltage at the charging output...

Hard starting and Over Run fix of Generac 16kW model 0052540

I got back to town yesterday after a week in Vegas at SEMA for work, and I was able to install the new intake valve cover gaskets. 60 inch-lbs worked great on the bolt torque (I had recently picked up a smaller torque wrench for just these kinds of values). I also double-checked the operation...

Hard starting and Over Run fix of Generac 16kW model 0052540

There is an on-board battery maintainer. I'll need to verify that it is still working correctly, though.

Any idea what the recommended bolt torque is for those?

Hard starting and Over Run fix of Generac 16kW model 0052540

So, I found time to adjust the valves ( this video was helpful as a tutorial). Adjusting the valves was good practice, as I have a '73 Fiat Sport Spider 850 that I'll need to adjust the valves on as I get it ready to go back on the road 😁 Here is the first start-up after the valve adjustment...

Hard starting and Over Run fix of Generac 16kW model 0052540

FYI - I'm getting good advice in a forum that is supported by generator techs to really look into the valve clearance. More detail on that is here in the "Ziller Electric forum". I found a lot of helpful generator info in searching those forums vs. others I tried when looking to identify a fix...

Hard starting and Over Run fix of Generac 16kW model 0052540

I wanted to be sure to document this somewhere for the next person having these troubles, and Garage Journal seemed like a good fit. Our house came equipped with a 16kW natural gas powered Generac stand-by generator (model 0052540 and serial 4643547) - for a Garage Journal tie-in, this...
