Espar Diesel heaters, worth rebuilding an older unit? Possible shop heat?

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. If my math is correct, 4300W is about 14,000 BTU, 3412 BTU/KW. However, if that 4300W is input not output (like a class C transmitter if you are a ham) then it will be nowhere near 14,000BTU out. Diesel has about 34,000 BTU per liter. I know I saw the Espar...

Garage w/ Bonus room Mini Split recommendation

Are you trying to heat or cool the space, or both? That's a large volume either way. Mini split might not be up to the task. Cheers

Espar Diesel heaters, worth rebuilding an older unit? Possible shop heat?

Way back long ago, in a time far, far away, I used to own a really nice twin screw command bridge boat that had an Espar marine heater in it. It ran just fine most of the time but I was always on the lookout for good used ones for backup at the second hand stores. I gathered quite a number and...

Modifying a Clopay 14x14 door to fit 14x10 opening

Thanks, I thought I could do it one bracket at a time, and yes I pre-drilled all the holes already, but will have to do it again. :( I used a ratchet strap into the trusses when I did it the first time, to make sliding the shaft into the end plates a little easier, I'll do it again. Thanks again!

Modifying a Clopay 14x14 door to fit 14x10 opening

Thanks Hot Rod, Do you mean just raising the center supports an inch or so, or dismantling everything and raising the entire assembly? Would raising just the center enough to clear cause a problem? thx

Modifying a Clopay 14x14 door to fit 14x10 opening

Well happy new year all. It's been a long slow, c o l d process but I have the garage door installed and springs all mounted and working....but I have a small problem....the top section of the door hits the springs on the way up, the rest of the panels are fine as the rollers are closer to the...

Modifying a Clopay 14x14 door to fit 14x10 opening

Need a little clarification from the garage door gurus.... How many pounds of spring tension should be on the door to keep the cables tight throughout the full travel. Right now, if I use the 6.5" dia of the linear portion of the drum, I have an initial lifting force of 273lbs, the door has 5...

Modifying a Clopay 14x14 door to fit 14x10 opening

I found some formulas for springs and drum sizes and force generated by the springs...based on what I have found, it looks like my springs will work, but will have to overcome 30 lbs of initial lift, to wind up with about 15lbs of spring tension remaining on the cables when the door is up. I...

Modifying a Clopay 14x14 door to fit 14x10 opening

Thanks for the replies boys. Lot's to consider and research. Virtually no flex on the back wall. I have used 2x6 nailed to 2x4 on edge, with hurricane straps screwed to the double header, then also screwed to the trusses all the way up the pieces meant for nailing the OSB to. Seems very sturdy...

Modifying a Clopay 14x14 door to fit 14x10 opening

Thanks again all. For now I just want to confirm that this door will work so I can safely frame the end wall for this door, and it sounds like it will, I just may have to replace some components, so I will proceed with framing it, weigh it as suggested and proceed once it's installed...

Modifying a Clopay 14x14 door to fit 14x10 opening

Thanks guys for the ideas and links, those links are awesome and I learned a TON in the last hour or so. Walls are 10'4 1/2", scissor trusses with 2.5:12 inside pitch, which gives me 18.25" above the door opening, at 5' in from the side walls, based on a 14' door and 26' spaced walls, door is...
