Tell me what you like & don't like about your US General tool box

I have the 56 in variety and have used it professionally for over a year now. Like: Casters. Not many people get to move their box frequently but I started in a job where it moved everyday multiple times a day. The box frame around the drawers is built like a brick *********. You will be...

Give me your thoughts on 1/2" ratchets

I’m preferential to a flex head for my main ratchets. I’ve been using a Pittsburgh 1/2” flex head for like 10 years without any fanfare. It isn’t the nicest but it sure gets the job done! I recently picked...

Open End Torque Adapters / Extended Crows Foot?

Hey man, MAC tools made a set like what you described as an extended crowsfoot. I owned a set for several years but didn’t use them enough and sold them. I’ll include the pictures from my ad and hopefully the part numbers can help you find them on EBay. Expect to pay a premium for them it’s...

What’s this machine lead/cable connector called?

This is a circular connector style. ITT cannon is the original manufacturer of the “cannon plug”. The three prong is a common plug in general aviation for reciprocating engine sensors. Make a call to your local airport and get ahold of the mechanic responsible for on field maintenance. A case of...

Do pro mechanics use box-end wrenches with 12 or 6 points?

We all need a little spice in our life. Life is too short to open the toolbox and not find any tasty treats!

Do pro mechanics use box-end wrenches with 12 or 6 points?

Pro aircraft maintenance and now sports car restoration. I only have ever used 12pt combo wrenches. I have always kept 6 and 12 pt sockets, full set of each (in SAE and metric). I have bought some one off 6 pointer wrenches but they are application specific.

Would you trust Tekton torque wrenches for aircraft work?

A&P here, my two cents: Based on your experience, I would absolutely not buy another. There are several good points made here. Yearly calibration will give you peace of mind no matter the brand. Click type wrenches have come a long ways and work very well as a general rule. Brand may not...

Please recommend a DO-IT-ALL tool for TPMS

I have personally used an autel TS508 for two years now. The updates are free and I haven’t found a vehicle it can’t do - although I am limited in my personal use for variety of vehicles. Friends and family with Chevy, Ford and Honda and Toyota have all been able to be serviced by this tool...

Looking for advice in real world performance of a small air compressor

I’m in the same boat but chose the harbor freight fortress 30 gal over the kobalt for performance reasons. I won’t look back unless the things quits on me in under 10 years. Food for thought.

New Wilton vise, still worth investing in?

I have been rocking the WILTON 745 mechanics vise for 6 years now. It has lived in constant motion on the top of a toolbox rolling around a hangar. I bought it new and used it almost daily up until now. This vise feels much better than your general use store bought brands. MUCH. I see a comment...

aviation: lightweight high speed air drill

Hi, Vavet! I think you will find the most value in a pan american tool drill. These drills are absolutely comparable to the high end names. There are some good recommendations here in the comments and I’ll just add my two cents on the version I own. I have the pistol grip non reversible and...

Checking calibration of a click torque wrench with beam

Applying force with a torque adapter at 90* is common practice in professional settings everywhere. I would argue some fine details in this practice but I know the calculations turn out just fine. I don’t think this is the concern here.

Checking calibration of a click torque wrench with beam

This is fine but you still need to be working with a known good for true calibration. If one of those torque wrenches is not calibrated to a NIST traceable standard, you don’t really know. Lots of tool manufacturers are required to hold certain tolerances for measuring tools like scales. This...

Are HF air fittings any good?

I stocked the HF brass I/M fittings exclusively at my previous job. We used them daily and generally abused them (in an aviation setting). Other than buying in bulk I couldn't find them much cheaper. We never had a failure or a leak in the 4 years that I used them. They were super convenient to...

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

Ditto, it so much better built than the other brands for home gamers. I upgraded to this from a masterforce and I absolutely love it. The big coasters are top notch for anyone doing a lot of moving around, on a smooth shop floor she rolls silent and deadly like a heart attack. Bonus points if...
