The skinny on compressors in 2024

Talked to a locally owned compressor shop today. Think I’m going to pull the trigger on a Champion VRV series. Still trying to decide between 5 and 7.5hp. Dewalt sent a truck to pick up my old turd today. Hope they make it right.

doesn't all of this rebranding make it infuriating for the consumer who wants to know what they're getting?! If only people like us on this forum didn't make up a tiny percentage of tool buyers vs. the average Lowes/HD buyer, then the corporations would have to listen right?!

For what it’s worth, I did just read a review on Zoro of one of the Speedaire units. The person said it was a Campbell Hausfield unit.

I’m 36, so I’d like to think that’s relatively young and I’ve got a lot of wrenching years ahead of me! I’m definitely a hard pass on cheap “house brands” on this purchase. Fool me twice…

The skinny on compressors in 2024

I’ve still got my pancake portable and don’t plan on ever getting rid of it. I definitely won’t be using it like a tire shop, but would rather pay more now and get something high quality that lasts for the rest of my wrenching days than risk another shop burn down with harbor freight quality...

The skinny on compressors in 2024

I’m actually still waiting on Dewalt to tell me what amount of refund they’re giving me on the whole unit. I definitely have thought about just replacing the motor with a higher quality unit, but I think for me if the motor was that crappy, I can only assume the rest of the unit has similar...

I don’t have any experience with Quincy, but I just read a lot about quality control being box store level as of late and I’m trying to get out of that game a bit.

The skinny on compressors in 2024

So I’m about a month away from breaking ground on my new, dream shop. Will be 24x32, 14ft ceilings with an 8x12 mezzanine. As luck would have it, my compressor died two weeks ago. I had a “3.7hp” 60 gallon Dewalt and it was nothing but a head ache. Had it for just over a year. First one shot...

upgrade partial 2 wire to 3 wire

Good advice to go even bigger, but the panel is already in and I think it will work fine for now. When I redo the garage itself, I'll probably put in a bigger panel. Honestly it wouldn't be all that hard to swap it out when the time comes. My welder runs 27 amps maxed out. My current...

upgrade partial 2 wire to 3 wire

Power supply is all in and one new 220v plug and circuit is run! My uncle was a life saver yesterday and we worked all day running wire and him doing the panel setups. Still need to rewire all the existing 110v plugs and lights, but serious progress was made! Plus i got to put dirt back in my...

upgrade partial 2 wire to 3 wire

Alright thanks for all these helpful replies. My uncle that has done a lot of electrical work, and used to do fiberoptic installs is coming over tomorrow, so that should be helpful. Here is what I have so far: - #4 aluminum XHHW-2 (enough for 3 strands) - #6 aluminum XHHW-2- for the ground...

You are right, I made a mistake. I have made many mistakes before and will make many more.

This is almost as helpful as some of your other condescending posts. I've already fully admitted I'm a novice at this work and just came here for help. If your purpose is just to make fun of me because I'm asking dumb questions, then please take your internet trolling elsewhere.
