I would say get the lift early on Sat morning and go to town working from the top down. Sprayer can work but will make a mess if not done right. Just get a brush and mini roller setup.
the extra 2" will be on the bottom of the rafter. if you were to trace the 2x4 on the 2x6 the top would be flush making the birdsmouth longer and the plumb cut will hang down further
