Buy the equipment and install it yourself. The average lower end carrier Bryant Etc is about $2,000 in parts for a three or three and a half ton system. The difference in cost of equipment between tonnage is very small compared to what contractors charge.
Use that insulation and wrap it with black electrical tape. Don't compress the insulation when you wrap the tape just make sure you tape it all and it will handle the weather.

All true but I have a Honda with 200k miles that I have never replaced the metal washer. No leaks. One day it will let me down though. Oil is thicker and not under pressure like hvac stuff, what he said is correct.
