    Wiring Begins.....

If you have to drive the ground bar yourself, the "stupid" YouTube trick using just water and your hands is not, in fact, stupid at all and even works in North Texas's finest black expansion clay. :) Edit: I say "stupid" because I thought "There is no way that actually works in this #$%^...

What wire for running power to shop.

When I planned my shop run, I went with the advice I received here about the type and size of wire which I followed because I was planning on doing everything myself. One of the electricians I had give me a quote (when I got tired and frustrated) refused to use the wire I bought due to it being...

Adding a sub panel to a garage - quote question

That does not sound bad at all compared to what I was quoted for installing a subpanel in my shop (actually just running the wire between the main and the sub was MORE than that).

Adding a sub panel to a garage - quote question

Truth spoken right there. Before we moved to our new house, we had a classic 1978 FedPac panel in our old house. I knew the dangers and problems with them, but because we would be required to bring everything up to code if we replaced it, we couldn't afford the swap. I know codes are updated...

Finding out where which underground conduit goes where

If it isn't full of water from condensation, you could also put a speaker at one of the openings and listen for the music on the other end. Slightly easier than getting out the vacuum and everything to **** through, unless you are ready to also pull wire.

wiring plan for Shed and RV pedestal

I recently ordered 6 gauge thhn from Wire-CableYourWay for a 50amp circuit in my shop. Legit place with prices that are hard to beat at box stores or suppliers around here. I did get my aluminum 2-2-2-4 needs through Home Depot (online and delivered), but I lucked out that they had stock when...

Replaced my Garage bulbs with LED

So essentially I will find out if it is bad in my shop if (since I don't have a lathe) the blade on one of my saws "slows" down in the light. Also, until there is a certification, it sounds like it is kind of a ****-shoot for affordable lighting (even the highly praised stickied thread)...

Replaced my Garage bulbs with LED

True and thank you. In my mind I was thinking about the drivers tat I use when I build my LED lights for riding, but those do, as you said, use pure DC power. Two questions: How does one "test" for flicker reliably? As simple as shooting video at different frame rates (multiples of 30 for...

Replaced my Garage bulbs with LED

Whether or not they flicker is dependent on the type of power delivery the bulb uses. SEE INNOVATE1's POST BELOW (this statement is not entirely accurate): If the LED uses a driver, AC is converted to DC, there will be no flicker because there is no variation of power delivery. If the LED...

    Metal building insulation...again

If you are using a radiant barrier (foil faced board) and the barrier faces OUT to reject heat during the summer (like my shop set up), you have to have an air gap for the barrier to do its job. If you are only insulating or facing the barrier into the shop, you do not need to have the spacers...

    Help with small engine

If ethanol caused the failure of a needle and seat in 10 days, none of my equipment would ever run. The issue described above sounds like the float sticking open as a needle leaking without the open float would not pour gas out as described, it would leak slowly. A stuck float pours gas out...

    Help with small engine

The pictures are a great resource! I actually need to order a new set of rods for my HRC216 because they got damaged in transit on the trailer. Once they are bent, no amount of hope, attempts, or prayer will get them right again. LoL If the mower starts and idles, it is getting fuel. The...

    Help with small engine

Perhaps it isn't the fuel at all. A weak ignition system (coil) will cause the same type of issue. I had to replace the coil on my Echo SRM-230 for the same symptoms. I imagine the 230 has WAY more hours (used commercially for many years), but if fuel doesn't fix your problem, you have to...

    Metal building insulation...again

Loctite canned spray foam to seal up these paces. It is closed cell, so it is air tight. Bonus points is that it sets as a pure white foam instead of the yellow foam from GreatStuff. The ouside corners and eaves should have trim in place before foaming the areas.

Need help with lighting in 25'x48'x12'

Give it a little while, there are some folks that will provide a better answer than me. My shop is 30x30x14 and I installed a claimed 171,000 lumens of light (using 8' Barrina strips from Amazon across every roof truss ~42 inches apart) and get 123 fc of light at the surface of my assembly...
