What Do You Use Your Garage For?

Storage for anything we can't fit in the apartment and/or place for my wife to toss stuff she's too lazy to put away. She keeps squawking that she's going to clean it out so she can park her car there (one car garage.) She's been saying that for over 10 years.

How to make a good FM radio antenna?

Or run a wire from the radio antenna to the metal wall of the building. Turns the entire building into an antenna. When I worked in a warehouse, we had the metal antenna taped to one of the steel beams that supported the building. Great reception to our favorite station.

Wait, a WHAT kind of saw?

This was derived from some of the tools that the military used in Iraq. It's cutting edge.

    Vulcan Anvil

The "log" is cheap, easy to obtain (usually) and holds up well. If you are just planning on displaying it, talk to a welder/fabricator about a stand. You may find the log is the better bet.

    Hooking up a home generator

Somehow, you have to interrupt the connection between the incoming line and the house. You said the power comes to the shed then to the house. Is there a main breaker in the shed? If so, that will have to be turned to "OFF" before running the generator.

What kind of lubrication should I use for an old brass padlock?

My uncle was a bonded locksmith for 40+ years. His ONLY recommendation for lock lubrication was powdered graphite. Liquid stuff can, like Strouty said, turn gummy or attract dust, dirt, etc. that can mess things up.

    hvac quiz-shits/giggles

In my house, it's, "It's hot in here!" "Leave the thermostat alone." "I'm turning it up anyway!" "Holy sh*t! Look at the electric bill!"

Okay then...what is this clamp used for?

Maybe he had to first remove 50 shades of grey... paint.

I kicked snows *** with my little 1978 Ariens

Part of me wishes I could have kept Dad's Gilson. I think it was late 60's, early 70's. But, no room for it, no need for it; I hope my brother or bil took it.

Local man killed in outdoor wood burner explosion

Yeah, I looked at this, too. I think what is meant is that he passed away after suffering for two days, due to the burns he received. When I was still working at the hardware store, every gas can we had come in had some sort of warning on it about using care with gasoline. The "spokes person"...

    Any you guys ever notice...

Ever hear the back-story and history of BoA? Founder got very lucky when the 1906 earthquake hit San Francisco. After the quake and the fires were out, he set up business again where the remains of his bank were. He kept the money hidden in an old wagon covered with lumber.

    Taking opinions on a knife.

Sometimes, less is more, especially if you are building this to use and not just look at. As far as handle material, again, use or looks? My personal preference is wood, but again, that's me. I was starting to build one from an old lawn mower blade when I was at the hardware store, but it and...

    Old electric hacksaw

That looks almost identical to one that Facilities has where I work. The "unattended" part is correct; I had one of the maintenance technicians call me one evening and ask me to check it, he thought he had left it on. He was right. It surprised me that no one had added a kill switch that...

    Splitting Axes

For the block, get one that was cut from near the base of the tree, it's thicker. Cut it so that it is a comfortable height for you when you impact the piece being split. There are "special splitting axes" available that have things on them that are supposed to help split the wood. I've never...
