Wiring a 3 prong welder receptacle to 4 wires

I will definitely post some pictures. My floors are getting epoxied this week! Once they are done, I will take some pictures. Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

Yes, I will most likely put a 50 amp plug under my box at some point. In the meantime, I consulted a licensed electrician today about my situation and he told me that I should use 25 amp breaker’s and I’ll be just fine and it will pass code. Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

Wiring a 3 prong welder receptacle to 4 wires

So, after all the discussion and advisement from you guys (which I REALLY appreciate!), I have decided to do the following: I have a Lincoln Arc Welder for sale! I will never use the term 220v ever again! I am going to swap the 30 amp breakers for 20 amp breakers, considering the 20's will...

Wiring a 3 prong welder receptacle to 4 wires

Awesome, thank you. Lift requirements are 208v-17 amps/230v-16 amps Compressor requirements are for a 20 amp circuit, so I am good there. Do you think I should swap out my 30 amp breakers for 20 amp?

Just so I understand what you said here, my lift is hardwired-I'm good with the 30 amp breaker. If I have the option to hard wire my compressor-I'm good with a 30 amp breaker. When I plug my welder into the wall receptacle, because it's a welder, I am still good with a 30 amp breaker?

Wiring a 3 prong welder receptacle to 4 wires

Thank you. Had I known this before, I would have definitely used larger wire. Seems my electrician did me no favors. Fortunately, the compressor will most likely be no bigger than 1.5 hp and probably 120v with a 220v option. Was just informed by my father that the wire feed he is giving me...

Wiring a 3 prong welder receptacle to 4 wires

Lift specs show 208v/17 amps/230v/16 amps. I ran 20 amp circuits throughout the entire building, the 12/3 is on 30 amp breakers. Sent from my iPad using The Garage Journal mobile app

His comment to me was 12/3 would be sufficient for a wire feed, the lift, and a compressor. I weld very little and anything I do would be light gauge steel. I haven’t yet purchased a compressor, I’m still undecided on whether or not I need a two stage or if I can get away with a portable...

Wiring a 3 prong welder receptacle to 4 wires

Not really an option without major surgery to my garage walls. They are all drywalled and painted. I ran 3 lines for 220. One for my welder, one for my 2 post lift and one for my compressor. I did consult an electrician before using this wire during the construction phase. I’m usually...

I probably should have gone overkill on the wire for my 220 outlets. Hindsight is amazing! Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal
