    Show me your wrench drawer

Here’s my 4 drawers. I use Hall wrench racks for my two main drawers and the other two are a free for all. The Hall racks made a huge difference when I added them a few months ago. I was able to free an entire drawer in my box. Still plenty of room for improvement. The drawer for the jumbo...

    Show your new tool arrivals

Irwin 34 piece impact bit set. Part number is 1840391. It’s all Phillips and Torx, with two nutsetters. Seemed like a no brainer to buy since it’s deck building season.

Several additions that I had been eyeing up for a long time and finally decided to buy:

    snap ring pliers....

Most of the good USA snap-ring pliers are rebranded Langs. You could probably save a few bucks by buying direct through Lang. I have the Proto rebrands and they're sturdy and work when I need them.

3/8 or 1/2 inch ratchet and sockets

It is best to start with 3/8 unless you know for sure that you will primarily be coming across large fasteners. I have a 3/4 ton pickup so I use 1/2 and 3/4 drive fairly often. For everything non-automotive, I reach for 3/8 drive first.

    pickup truck jacks

The jack that came with my F-250 is a similar style and has always performed well. I have 34" tires and clearance has never been an issue. It's not the fastest jack but it always works.

Forgive me if this has already been covered on the forum but....

We used outside reading folding rules in land surveying for measuring height of instrument after setup. We only used the ones with engineering scale which would make it extra useless for the average guy.

    Power tools peaked

This. Companies are following the money.

Klein 6 in 1 and 7 in 1 nut drivers

I saw these on the Klein website over the weekend and thought they might have a place in a travel toolkit if you're limited on space. Although, I do wonder about the amount of slop you'd get with all of those bits connected together.

Carlyle 3/8 Flex head ratchet - flex teeth rounded.

That sounds like a defect in the heat treating of the metal. You would expect tool steel to shear before it rounded over. A reasonable retailer would warranty that when they saw what happened.

    I want a longer pry bar ...

On a tangential note, how does everyone store pry bars longer than 36”? The super long ones just don’t seem to fit anywhere in a garage

Has anyone ever needed a 9mm hex key?

You’re definitely going to need a 9mm hex socket for post-tensioning muffler bearings. Wouldn’t want to be caught without one.

Tools you have, that you've never used...

1-1/2” ratcheting combination wrench. I bought it from a pawn shop, mostly as a novelty. Now I know why it was at a pawn shop to begin with, poor soul that paid retail probably realized he’d pissed a lot of money down the drain. Thankfully I didn’t pay very much for it.

    Need a beastly 1/2" ratchet

I personally have the long flex head Proto 90 tooth and it’s a tool that’s a throwback to a time when gravity was free. It’s not a cheap tool and I’d imagine that a Matco 88 or similar Snap-On will deliver similar results. Considering you intend tend to use it as a breaker bar and ratchet, your...

Who makes hand tools for the military now?

It was mostly Armstrong and Proto when I was getting out in 2016 but Armstrong was never in stock at the base industrial supply so it was Proto or MSC's junk house brand. I don't know how some units get Snap-On but we had to do 99% of our purchases through MSC.
