I'm not having much success with the colors. There's one clearly black wire, but the rest are all very sawdust-ey and I'm afraid of damaging them during a concerted cleaning effort.

So in `3.jpg` above, the start winding would be between stator wire 3 and 4? Would I then have the 2-5 as the main winding? I'm still confused as to why there are 5 wires. Is stator 1 just a common line?
