Barn to shop conversion - Removing Gambrel roof and installing gable trusses.

On my property I have a 40x60 Gambrel barn in fair condition but needing a new roof. Currently the roof has the original wood shingles and two layers of asphalt shingles. The barn dates from the 1910's and the roof is leaking as well as some upper beams in the loft showing some rot and various...

Best-value impact sockets ... your recommendations?

I read in the Harbor fright reviews that their sockets don't engage the retaining ring on impacts and are for the ball detent type retainer. Has anyone purchased a set from the other brands recently that works with the older style clip and O ring retainer?

    Impact sockets, retaining ring type.

Gentlemen, I just picked up and rebuilt a blue point 1/2 impact wrench, runs great! I'm having trouble finding impact sockets that go on the retaining ring style keeper. The one with the rubber o ring under the clip. Anybody know a brand that will work with the ring retainer anvils? The...

    Farmer's special

The Vendo Coke machine showed up last summer but has just been sitting around waiting it's turn for the most part. The machine works great... gets cold fast, no weird noises. I did a quick buffing on the outside and it cleaned up pretty good. Plans are to repaint it eventually but just get...

    Farmer's special

Back around February I picked up this old FORD gumball machine... used to have these in the auto parts stores I went to with dad as a kid. He'd give me some change and i'd feed the machine. I found the base and the matching standpipe... but the pipe was kinda short so I extended it some with...

    Farmer's special

I had this vice that was left here when I bought the place so I thought i'd make a stand and mount it on a heavy base so I could use it to hold stuff at weird angles while I weld. The vice is a craftsman. The round cast iron base is a flywheel from a late 20's Buick... Sold what was left of...

When is it time to Down Size?

As mentioned before... when the stuff starts to "own" you. I downsized a few years ago... felt great and I don't miss the stuff. That said... my wife knows what to do with the rest when I kick the bucket. All she has to do is call the auctioneer and let them take care of it, then collect the...

    Vintage gas pump security

I originally wanted to fill it with concrete and hook an electric fence zapper to it... just joking!... Maybe. LOL! Point taken. A little security for the "grab anything not nailed down" crowd should do the trick. I like the double nut idea... i'll go with that at the very least.

    Vintage gas pump security

Dang. I guess they really wanted it! I should add that I live in the country, an area with low crime. The crime we have had are "crimes of opportunity"... basically open or unlocked things have been targets in the past. There's a guy in the area that has a nice restored pump outside his shop on...

    Vintage gas pump security

So i'm contemplating picking up an old gas pump for outside my garage, to place between the two doors. I have a short concrete extension in front of the doors that extends 2' before the gravel starts. Knowing the number of thieves and d&%k heads in this world i'd like to secure it so it...

    Farmer's special

I spent an hour with the compressor, a dry brush and a toothbrush and got the insides nice and clean. The common issue with these is the pointer sticking and bending it's actuating arm. The manual says to lubricate it with graphite grease every so often. I cleaned all the old grease off of...

    Farmer's special

I spent some time today working on the Idealarc... I got this cheap since the leads were stolen for the copper along with all the wiring out of the garage it was in, lol. Scrappers gone wild. I pulled the cover and it wasn't really bad inside. I expected some mouse house action but there was...

I'll dig around and see if I can find a pic of them being built... If I can't find any I'll capture some next time I make a set in the near future.

    Adding garage thread to signature

Thanks guys! I messed around with it again Sunday morning and got it to work this time. I did get some "invalid files" notices but by sneaking in a extremely small graphic of a blank page in the upload signature image box it allowed it to go through... funky!
