    Heaaaaaaavy Chandelier

I have a home owner who is providing a chandelier on a new build. Apparently, it is Ces rated, however it is supposed to mount using a hook through a bolt on the ceiling with a wire going into the splice box beside it (sounds a little 1970s to me). The manufacturer (designer?) claims that we...

Best storage options for my garage "attic"?

If you end up pulling the roof for new trusses, why not frame on an extra foot or two of wall height too Then just add on 2 feet of length, and 3 feet of width etc - I'm pretty sure that's how most projects on GJ end up going anyway

Advice on hard wiring smoke/co detectors

A side note on Nest smokes. At last check, they have no way of being connected into a sprinkler system. Probably not a difference to many people, but around here, in many jurisdictions, sprinklers are becoming mandatory, making Nest smokes no use.

Do I need a disconnect for compressor?

Yes but if the other 3way is out of sight someone could turn it back on without realizing you're working on it.

    Gfi outlet problem

Also check your bare ground wire didn't get pushed up against the neutral screw on one of your downstream outlets when you pushed them in. That will cause nuisance tripping

What's Va law on previous employee tools?

Should you have to worry about your tools in his shop? No Is it a recipe for disaster? Yes Oh I just need to borrow this for a minute. Oh I'll put that back later. Sure you can use that wrench till you buy your own. The longer your tools stay, the more communal they will become. Add in a...

    Want CLEAN Grout?

I'm going to have to look for that, I loath the "grey" grout in our kitchen. Did you find it at one of the big box stores? Thanks for the review

    "Warm" garage floor

A bit of background first - my wife and I have an upholstery business. We use our garage as a workshop primarily. We possibly may one day put a car in there again, but not anytime soon. We pretty much live in the garage, and our kids love to be out there with us. We have heat in there, and it is...

    Where are Incandescent Bulbs Outlawed?

Thought I'd throw in a suggestion that might have been mentioned earlier, but I started skimming when the thread went waaaaaay political Anyway, for 60w bulbs, you can still (and probably will always be able too due to heat tolerance requirements) purchase Appliance bulbs. 100w rough service...

Electicians, do you guys ever do work while the circuits live?

I remember working with a newer apprentice and he was installing assorted plugs in a house that someone had turned on all the breakers. I offered to help him shut off the live ccts and he said "no I've got to learn how to do it live eventually". For about a half hour, like clockwork every 5...

    Sears compressor parts question

Thank you for all the suggestions guys. I've tried most just now, and will have to get back on it when I have had some rest. Sears direct, and ereplacement parts don't list it. Google led me to devilbiss who have the manual listed but have blanked out the 2 pages with the parts breakdown...

    Sears compressor parts question

Can I use pvc for airlines?? Just kidding I have a Sears compressor about 8 years old. The upper gasket on the pump part has started leaking when filling. Where can I get a replacement? Does anyone know who would have manufactured it? The local Sears is quite unsure, and I won't be dealing...

LED strips to light up driveway

If you mount the LED strips on a small triangular strip of wood, you could then throw more light out into the driveway instead of washing the walls with it
