This may be a silly question but doing a quick search I could not find an answer. Why did Simplex emboss their vises with "steel slide"? Is it actually different from the other cast iron slides of other makes or just marketing? Is it better?

The rear pulley on my drill press has a chip in each level. They are not large chips but chips none the less. The pulley is cast iron. For some reason the chips are really bothering me. I figure they are just cosmetic but I want to be sure. Would it be a good idea to take a file and smooth...
