Another vote for cosmoline. It's been the standard since the dawn of time.

    12pt deep sockets?...you use em?

You could get 48,000 inches of rain, and that would be fantastic. The problem is road salt. Kind of hard to avoid around here.

Buy USA/Europe vs. Asian COO especially China?

Yost's cheaper vises are import, but the brand is definitely USA.

    12pt deep sockets?...you use em?

12 pt comes in handy if you have a bolt in a tight spot and need to put a breaker bar on it. I just ran into this situation yesterday with a motor mount. I haven't had any problems using 12 pt sockets on 17mm and up fasteners that aren't rusted too bad, though I still prefer 6 pt.

    Zoro 12/29 sale

Zoro has some of the best prices around for Fluke equipment, even before discounts. I've been wanting a DC-capable clamp meter for a while now. In for a Fluke 375 at $220 shipped. Nobody can even come close to that price. Heck, at 30% off you can get a Fluke 177 at the street price of a Fluke...

    Craftsman Block Grinder wont spin

    1. The wires need to be clean. Did you wipe them down with alcohol after sanding? 2. Make sure you're using the soldering iron to heat the wires, then apply the solder to the heated joint. Simply melting the solder onto a cold joint will not give you results. You can melt a bit of solder onto...

    Craftsman Block Grinder wont spin

Both of my blocks had different color varnish on the start windings. One was redder, one was yellower. The start windings on his stator don't really look bad to me.

    Craftsman Block Grinder wont spin

I was just explaining the purpose of a start cap. All single phase induction motors use start windings. Regular split phase just omits the start capacitor. I think you found your problem. If there's a start winding lead connected to that white wire, and it's not connected to the start winding...

    Craftsman Block Grinder wont spin

Sounds like you have a blown start cap. The purpose of the start circuit is to generate a rotating magnetic field. When the rotor isn't in motion, the field needs to be rotating to motivate the rotor in one direction or the other. A 3-phase machine achieves this inherently, but a single phase...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

You're welcome...I'm glad you were able to snag it. I'm pretty sure the Industrial Rated and Commercial designations are the same thing. My early 60's block is an Industrial, whereas my early 70's block was a Commercial. I'm guessing your block is from around the time they switched...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

Heads up if anyone's interested. Was checking out my local CL and noticed this 3/4 HP Flat-Top...for $20. It looks like it even comes with all the little bits that are normally missing. It's in Mansfield, OH. I'm sick and don't really feel like driving out there, but I figured someone here might...
