I have always wanted to build a car tow dolly. I do not want to cut my axle to accomadate the under slung designs. I do want to use small 8" tires. I think I should build a tandem axle dolly with straight axles and small 8" tires (because thats what I have). If my tires are rated for 800 pounds...

Here's the deal. I ordered a bench grinder with belt sander attachment from Northern tool. I received it and the damned thing would not come up to speed, just turn real slow with no power (it was very cold about 0 degrees outside). So I sent it back and they sent me a new one which worked fine...

Exactly what my buddy did 4 years ago. Still just fine.

I used 7/16" osb. I can hang anything anywhere, holds screws and nails very well.

I have considered the tow bar, but you can't use them on newer cars or my 66 electra due to the front bumper is pointed in such a fashion that it interfears.

I understand what you're saying, but how did the old dollies that don't pivot work? Or is the pivoting style just way better and I would be an idiot for building a dolly without it pivoting?

Question is "do I really have to make the platform pivot?" or can I get buy without the pivoting platform and just unlock the steering of the towed vehicle. Yes, I like it in my 2 car insulated work shop. No blower on these. I installed the ceiling fan (from the kitchen) in my shop, wife was pissed. Gets alittle hot if your right under it. Real easy install, basic black pipe with a flexible end piece because it does wiggle around a little.
