I actually have both Lista and Harbor Freight in my garage. I’m with Lista as the “best”, but if you don’t need bulletproof, the HF “US General” stuff is better than most of the mid tier boxes, for a lot less $.

Before buying any wood bench tops check out Ikea. I'm too lazy to hunt down links right now, but IIRC the 6' butcher block top I got from IKEA cost about $90. It's probably made of mystery wood but it has held up fine for 5 years.

This thread is a nice idea, but the mile long chain of reports makes it pretty much unusable. Better to put your HF tool reviews in hfreviews.com where they can be accessed and searched by item number.
Re the 3-phase debate, I too seek out 3-phase machines and have converted several single-phase purchases *TO* 3-phase for use in my garage. 3-phase with a VFD is dream after you've had to do belt changes. These days VFDs are pretty inexpensive.
