    Old tool brands to avoid

Probably the first socket set I got when I was 15 (1972) was in a stamped blue steel box labeled "Bernzomatic". I didn't realize how bad they were until I used some decent tools. Less than $10 even then. Horrible.

    Opinion on Screw Compressor

At my work we have an Italian FIAC 7.5 hp screw compressor with attached dryer. We have a need in my building for constant dry air to run pneumatic systems all day and the FIAC works great. Its mounted on a 100 gallon tank and is always on, but not always running. Meaning, the compressor portion...

Allen Wrench set. What to buy?

I work on equipment every day that uses a lot of Allen head fasteners. In the smaller sizes, the Bondhus screwdriver style wrenches with the ball end are my go-to choices. Much easier than turning an L shaped wrench. Sets are available on Amazon.

    COSTCO Kirkland Giant Toolbox

    harbor freight roto ratchet problem

My local HF has never given me any trouble when returning a defective hand tool. I had a 1/2" extendable handle ratchet that lost its ability to extend. No receipt, no problem. Got a new one and was on my way. HF's ratchets, in my opinion are well made and durable. Definitely wouldn't classify...

    school me on swivel sockets

I've never had a situation come up in 40 odd years of DIY work where a swivel socket would have been enough of an improvement over a U joint or wobble extension to justify investing in a set. And no, you can't use the swivel socket or a u joint for that matter at 90 degrees. Probably 45 degrees...

Odd ball or 'gimmick' tools that ACTUALLY ever worked for you

Got a Sidewinder in 1/4 inch many years ago and just recently used it to spin in the alternator to block bolts on a 2003? Grand Am. Worked like a charm with a deep socket. But...that's the only time I remember using it for anything.
