Good timing for me with this thread. I don't have any knives that one would call high end. I keep a Kabar fixed blade in the car and carry either a Sog Trident or Cold Steel Prolite at work.
The Sog is okay, but totally beat up and the handle has partially melted. Never liked the Cold...
I agree here. Your girlfriend got them for you and every time you see those imperfections you will be reminded of her.

I wear Carhartt B151's at work. I bought 6 pairs about 3 years ago, 3 black and 3 fatigue. Funny... they all get the same amount of use, but the black have held up better, while the fatigue are softer but have shrunk in the length a little more.

I needed a carburetor for my snowblower. Web search pointed me to e-replacement parts. They had an OEM unit in stock for $74.00. Found the same OEM unit on Amazon for just under $20.00.
Same thing when I needed a bake hearing element for a GE stove. The OEM at E-replacement was somewhere...
