    Ceiling Fans?

Just went through it, one comment stuck out to me. I think that's one advantage to the larger fans, move a lot of air without the noise. I had Reznor heaters in my other shop and loved the heat but hated the noise, one of the major reason I went with Hydronic heating this time

    Ceiling Fans?

We installed a fan/light with remote and had a similar problem. The light would come on for no apparent reason. I started watching and noticed that our neighbor was coming in at the same time and their garage remote seemed to be causing the problem. They switched their remote code and our...

    Ceiling Fans?

My system is an Open Direct design, floor is a 6" slab with 2" of under slab rigid insulation. We are on a well so in the summer I can run the water through the tubing prior to sending it out to irrigate. I have 3 circuits and find that parts of the shop are too warm. Initially it feels fine but...

    Ceiling Fans?

Which model and size did you go with? I'm leaning toward the Essence in 10' for the larger bay to start with

    Ceiling Fans?

I set everything up for one of their Powerfoil in 10', even put it in the budget. I've asked for a formal quote but keep getting phone calls with questions. Seems like they're trying to get me to have them install it

    Ceiling Fans?

Both, I have hydronic heat throughout the slab. In the summer I'll be cooling the slab and want to move air to heat and cool

    Ceiling Fans?

Not sure where this fits so I'll start it here. I'm getting close to picking my ceiling fans and looking for some suggestions. Shop is 40 x 60 with 16' ceilings. The floor space is divided into two areas with a framed walled between the two ares, one is 20' x 40' and the other is 40 ' x 40'...

Options for piping in Propane....100 feet +

I just called on this last week, our local propane company will run the 1/2" poly inside of a 1" pvc conduit. Then they install the risers and pressure check, about $60 for each riser. Wants it a minimum of 18" deep and suggested setting it deeper in heavy traffic areas

    hydronic PEX...where to put them?

Having the pex that low does have advantages as you mentioned. I think the sand still needs to be compacted so their reference to "loose Pack" concerns me. I put my pex under the rebar grid so the saw cuts could be lower, a lot more work but it made a 2" cut very safe. I had to plan all of my...

    Layering Insulation under concrete.

Compare and make sure the 1" cumulative "R" value and compressive strength are the same as the 3". It might be cheaper for a reason

Has anyone been an owner-builder before?

I've done it several times and have another going right now. If you plan on doing as much as you can your build time gets extended and burnout can be a problem. A few others already commented on that so it's pretty common when you take on this kind of project. Building permits are usually good...

    hydronic PEX...where to put them?

Trying to add pictures but can't get multiple pictures up so I'm going to have to do it one at a time

    hydronic PEX...where to put them?

When I did mine I set the tubing in the slab. After pouring my footings we back filled and compacted the sand leaving an 7" void. Rolled out the vapor barrier and then 2" of rigid insulation throughout the entire floor. The rebar grid was placed on 2" concrete dobies and then the pex tubing was...

New build. Opinions on type of heat

You could still run hydronic tubing in the walls and heat that size shop. A small closed system with well insulated walls and ceilings would work well. Did you insulate the slab?
