What height to mount minisplit air handler in 18ft tall Morton building

I put mine at 102" to the bottom in an 18' tall building. I'm happy so far after 3+ years. They are tall enough that they throw air far, but I'm also not cooling the ceiling. It is rather hot when you climb a ladder, so I would not want to be trying to cool an area I'm not occupying.

Grease guns. Are there any decent ones anymore?

I just bought a Milwaukee 18V battery grease gun. I was not initially happy with the price, but being able to grease something 10x faster is great. Price is more reasonable when you already have batteries. The high pressure setting will easily clear clogged fittings. It has nearly the speed...

    Mini split disconnect

The wire will be fine... it is only 1 size over the minimum rated wire.

    Phase converter/electrical question

You have a 5HP RPC & want to operate a 5HP lathe with it? That could be a problem... your RPC should be at least 1.5x preferably 2x the operating load.

    SikaFlex Disappearing Into Control Joints

You do not want the sealer 4" thick. That is a huge waste of money. Proper ratio is 1/2 as deep as the width... On an 1/8" width, you can't do a 1/16" depth, nor is under 1/4" deep recommended. I went the depth of the tool I recommended, which was about 1/2" 4 years later, not one of them has...

    SikaFlex Disappearing Into Control Joints

I used the 1/4" rod without any issue. I also used a tool made for putting in window screens. It has a roller to push the rod it & worked very well for the $4 I spent on it. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Saint-Gobain-ADFORS-8-in-Plastic-Screen-Rolling-Tool/3094501 I put in about 600ft of rod with...

Proper sizing of hvac ducting system (house not garage)

Most high efficiency units run with approximately 350-450cfm per ton. Ductwork should be sized to stay under 1000fpm velocity for sound & restriction purposes. Shoot for about 800-900fpm as a reasonable cost vs. size balance. Branch ducts can be a little larger, maybe in the 600 range as you...

Radiant Heat Outlet and Return Temps

Now set your boiler to 90 deg & leave it alone. If the room meets setpoint you are good to go. Also remember to turn your mini splits off if you do not need them. They operate in a setback mode if the room is over setpoint, which just circulates air. This is bad, (as are ceiling fans) as it...

Radiant Heat Outlet and Return Temps

The floor is not absorbing heat better, you are still putting the same amount of energy into it. Half the flow at twice the delta is the same BTU output. Without flow numbers you are just guessing. The way to check the boiler output is to set the output temp higher (say 120deg) so it goes full...

Radiant Heat Outlet and Return Temps

Concrete gives off approx 2 btu/square foot per degree of temperature.... Meaning a 50deg room with a 60deg floor (10 deg delta) at 1,000sf = 20,000 btu energy output. In your case your floor (950 sq ft) needs to be 16.3 deg warmer than the room to give off 31,000 BTU. Also 1 yard of concrete...

Chain pots and receivers in slab of shop

I bought 8 pots... 4 went near my 2 post lift to be able to stabilize a car on the lift if necessary. I Installed them at the corners of the car, 8' wide by 16' long. I put the other 4 in the adjacent bay with the same spacing for other uses. I poured the floor around the pots... I sealed...

Mini-split: practical height limitation for air handler

Mine 30K Daikin is mounted with the bottom 8.5' above floor with an 18' ceiling. It works very well & is also not trying to cool all the hot air up near the roof.

    New compressor - 50 or 60a circuit?

For my 7.5HP compressor, the recommended breaker size was 35A. Works fine this way, but I doubt I needed a #6 wire.

    Dealing with carbide burr shards

I also make a habit of carefully blowing my clothes off with compressed air before returning to the house. Otherwise I (or my wife) seem to inevitably step on a shard in bare feet later that evening.

    Cord Reel Maximum Mounting Height?

Yes all of the above.... Too high & it will need a little help getting it to retract. Keep in mind if this has a circuit breaker reset button on it, you will need a ladder every time you trip it. I have a Zilla reel & had to build a pole to reset the breaker.
