    Unexpected gift from u.p.s today

Been UPS policy for a couple of decades now, to leave packages on doorsteps or "safe" delivery locations at the consignee RESIDENTIAL address. Some neighborhoods, or specific addresses might be flagged as "NO DR" or "no driver release" for reasons known to UPS. Or the package may be marked...

    Drywall questions-my first time.

If DIY is absolutely gonna happen (and why shouldn't it??), learn yourself some texturing techniques. Check out youtube, lots of good (and tons of bad of course) methods shown on there. You can cover up a lot of ugly with some good texture. Also the voice of experience. :rocker:

    1950s "Rocket" hammer

Bought a used one in the late 70's from a fellow construction worker who was hard up for some cash. Bought another in the early 80's from some thrift store. Still have em, and they are the "go-to" hammers in my box. They are just as good as it gets, IMO

    Drywall questions-my first time.

Zeke is dead on with this. If you lay over the top, your outlets, light switches, window/door trim will all become a lot of work to get done and looking nice. If you absolutely MUST put up new, tear out the existing and open up the numerous cans of worms you will find, and go back with new...

Reading Glasses, are there any good ones?

Another +1 on this one. The ones I have are several years old, and not terribly stylish, but darned handy working or playing outside.

File cabinates for storage.. how to organize?

Before I moved recently, I used some fire rated filing cabinets to store tools and ammunition. Not that the fire rating would have saved the tools or ammo, but when full, those file cabinets were all but impossible to move by hand, making them pretty secure if locked. Now I have a rolling tool...

Reading Glasses, are there any good ones?

A few years ago, I knew the time had come. I made an appt with the opto, and on the visit explained that I had felt no need for an exam since I knew I could see fine. DOT physicals every couple years, etc.... I could pass the eye chart with no prob, but now something was up, as I was having...

    Found on road

Channellocks, vise grips, screw drivers, sockets, roofing nailer the other day... The best find was an aluminum Magliner hand truck. Took the wheels and axle off, and pressure washed all the grease off it, and it is still going strong 15 years later.

    What is this thing?

Some sort of quick release? Yank down on the small lever, the large hook let's go? :dunno:

This has GOT to be a scam....

I work in an industrial setting, and currently there are over 20 of the HF boxes in daily use. The company furnishes tools and boxes so has all the say in what is purchased. The factory casters are NOT used, rather a square tube frame is constructed with large industrial casters, and the frame...

Whats the most dis-liked tool in your shop ?

Wire wheel. You know, the thing on the (almost) useless end of a perfectly good bench grinder? If you put nothing but me and the spinning bristles of doom in a hermetically sealed room, I would still not be able to find what I was working on after the work piece has inevitably been forcefully...

    Xcelite Screwdriver

At work, my small dept has a "community" set of Xcelite nutdrivers, in a molded plastic case. Sits closed up for months at a time, and every time it gets opened, the room clears out. Like has been said, smells like puke. Just can't talk the powers that be into a new set with less... ummmm...

    Multimeters

If you personally know someone who has survived a serious arc flash, you know how much damage it can cause. 2400V arc flash literally fried the exposed skin off a former co-worker of mine a few years ago. He survived, but a very long time later before he returned to work. Incredibly serious...

    Multimeters

Extech makes a good unit worth the money. I have a Mastech MS8226T that came in a great blow molded case. Bought through Amazon for way under $100. Works like a champ, comes with decent leads, and Fluke leads fit just fine. It does not get used as much anymore, since I found an almost new Fluke...

Harbor Freight tool cabs, how I did mine

Looks like a lot of thinkum went into that, very nice! I was intending to build a square tube frame around a couple of metal cabinets to use as a reloading bench, but this idea looks way better, and I like that it can be disassembled if need be. Thanks for the idea! (yes I am going to steal it)
