Mason arrived! :) Despite the nasty humidity and heat, today's progress is good. The main focus was erecting that back wall and corners reinforced with rebar. The block will also be filled with concrete. Probably a little overkill but the outside grade will be just above the first course of...
Strings are up for the mason. The string line represents the interior wall. The first course of block will be 12” blocks to accommodate the brick. The 12” block will be below yard grade. Next weeks weather outlook is going to be 🔥 HOT, 4 days of 97+.
Thanks! I’m over in Dickson County neighbor.
Damn grade! I will have 8 block on back wall and 3 at the front. The top block will be above slab grade, so that will give me 9’ 8” walls. I actually considered a tornado bunker/shelter but costs got in my way.
Another small step today. Before I could finish my coffee a BIG dump truck showed up with 12 ton of sand. He immediately realized he wasn’t bringing that up the driveway without crushing it. Crossed communications somewhere, but they fixed it in short order and brought some bagged sand for...
Update. Cement Company Claims Dept going to cut me a check after I forward them a quote.
Mason batter boards are in place. The horizontal boards are my top block. The shop floor will be 8” below the top block. Now you can really appreciate the grade difference. 8 blocks in the back...
Progress has slowed. We got a bit of rain here in middle Tennessee. It was needed to lower our drought classification from severe to mild. Farmers happy. That rain has put the masonry crew behind on other jobs. I‘m told 2 to 3 weeks before I see them.
When the footers were being poured we...
When I was a teenager I had to chuckle watching my grandmother, on a new house build, walking around the property with dowsing rods so she could tell the well driller where she found water. She was correct or maybe just lucky.
Going with the 2 ground rods. You know I first thought...
Had a 10:00 a.m. appt with dealer to get a new set of tires on the bike. Got home in time to help finish installing the Rebar rods. Now ready for the cement. Coming tomorrow about 3:00.
Almost there. Pumped the water out, gave it some time to dry, and stepped out the remaining footers. More rebar will go in today and hopefully can pour cement on Thursday. Estimating 20+ plus yards of 3000 psi cement. The cement will be transferred from truck by a cement buggy on tracks...
