    Update... I decided to return the DCD796 hammer drill and exchange it for a DCD791 drill. The DCD791 chuck is rock solid.     TL;DR - The DeWalt DCD796 hammer drill's chuck can be pushed inwards about 5 mm (I guess because of the hammer function but it's there even when not on the hammer position).
